Sleep difficulties

No sleep for four nights I have SPMS,any advice, struggling. Live alone, had MS for 35 years .My name is Steve.Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Steve,
Have you seen a GP about this?
They usually start by recommending the sort of “sleep hygiene” measures you can find if you google NHS insomnia - (things like relaxing in the evening, looking at caffeine intake).
Are you able to get some sort of physical exercise? Having MS can make this harder, which in turn might make it harder to sleep.
However, if none of that works, there are other options. I really struggled with insomnia for a number of months. A (very keen) GP trainee tried me on all sorts of medications. Eventually I ended up on mirtazapine, which really helped and had no side effects. I was on it for a while, now I only take it from time to time if my sleep goes off.
I didn’t much like lying awake and contemplating my future-with-ms, so the treatment has really helped.

Hello Steve,
I get sleepless nights reguarly. I need a decent night’s kip, otherwise I’m likely to get mood swings the next day.

Only advice I can give is, cut out the caffeine, alcohol, big meal and smartphone use in the evenings.
Good luck,
JP

Thank you for responding-I am going through ‘fatigue’ side of things with SPMS so even stretches and indoor exercises are a struggle, so frustrating. I did some indoor exercises late yesterday afternoon, that might of helped me get some sleep, about 5 hours. I’ll do the same this afternoon.

Thanks again
Steve
