Sjorgrens Syndrome

Hi everyone

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about Sjorgrens? I think I might be going down that route now. Still reeling from last really bad collapse last Christmas which has left me with residual problems, one of which was with my eyes, in particular my right eye. I now have really, really dry eyes for which I have now been prescribed Clinitas. After insisting I was seen again as my eyes are aching all the time and I cannot focus properly I was eventually seen by a new Ophthalmologist who asked different questions. I have been sent for blood tests now which have not been done before.

Does anyone know what things should be ticked on the blood test form, i.e what are they looking for?

I feel confused as had always thought MS a definite but am worried now as well as relieved that someone is actually asking questions and doing some tests.

Any info always appreciated, thank you!

Hi Dianne,

I’ve had dry eyes since my late thirties when my symptoms started. Dry eyes are diagnosed by the Schirmer strip test. A very dry mouth with very little saliva can also be investigated. Sjorgrens is an autoimmune condition so blood tests are done to look for antinuclear antibodies.

Sjorgren’s can be a a stand alone diagnosis. It can also be secondary to many other things such as lupus and arthritis. You can have neurological symptoms and it can be confused with MS.

I hope they get to the bottom of it for you.
