Hi all. I’ve put on an awful lot of weight since becoming a full time wheelchair user 3 years ago despite not eating much during the day at all. I now weigh about 17.5 stone and am 5’5". (Female). I’m seriously considering using mounjaro. Consultant told me to ask GP about weight loss injections last year but GP was quite dismissive yesterday. Just wondering if anyone else on Siponimod is taking it and what results they have had? Thanks x
I was on kesimpta and taking gabapentin and put on loads of weight and nothing seemed to help. When I was seen at the pain clinic they wrote to my GP asking them to help me with weight loss, I was put on orlistat and since taking this medication ( it’s a capsule ) I’ve now lost 25 kg in 3 months that’s with doing around 15 minutes exercise for the first 2 months and the last month I was in hospital and didn’t do any exercises. It works by stopping fat absorption and you have to be on a low fat diet, my diet was always good and I only actually cut out salmon from my diet. Since being on the capsule it’s really helped with my gut function, as it seemed like it had become very sluggish indeed. This is a medication that you can buy over the counter, or a GP can prescribe it, at the strength I’m on, and they have been weighing me each month as you have to loose 5% of your body weight in the first 3 months to be able to stay on the medication.
I hope you receive the help you need.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Really interesting to hear what worked for you. My GP doesn’t seem interested in prescribing anything
He has referred me to a weight loss group so suppose I’ll have to see what happens with that.
Dont tell me, the digital weight loss group? If it is this group they didn’t help me one bit kept saying you need to speak with your GP. I was signed up for this group and it’s all about increasing daily exercises and clean eating, when you have limited mobility they don’t want to know. That was when my GP said I could try orlistat. I hope this helps you, and if it helps I was very insistent on wanting the help and they have a duty of care.
Have just looked up Orlistat after reading your startling weight loss achievement,
First of all, well done! ![]()
Secondly, the listed side effects (see link to NICE) are quite scary: did you get any? Your GP prescribed it - how closely/regularly did they monitor you? Blood tests, BP and other monitors etc?
I’m 30kg overweight and haven’t been able to shift it since having to stop regular exercise (I was misdiagnosed for years) and fatigue kicking in.

Tbh, as long as you go low fat you only get the side effect at the start of taking for a few days. I always make sure it’s not taking with other medication and always at least 2 hours afterwards. There’s side effects with every medication and having dealt with the effects of IBS all my life I’m use to dealing with an upset stomach. I checked with my ms team before starting the medication and they were happy for me to take. My weight gain was down to medication and the effects of ms on my gut function. Sometimes you have to take the leap of faith and try. Yes my GP prescribed it, and do a monthly weigh in checking how I’m doing, they also offered me a gym membership but I declined and they provided paperwork telling you foods to eat and foods to avoid . I’ve lost some of the weight doing 15 minutes exercise a day and when I was in hospital no exercise but still lost loads of weight.
I believe you can buy over the counter it’s called Alli, and yes if you eat too much fat it comes out as oil liquid with your stools.
Blimey, you’ve done well. Those are the sort of results we’re more used to seeing with the GLP-1 RAs than with the old, more accessible and very much cheaper drug you’ve found. Well done, you.
Thank you so much, but it was the help of the pain clinic writing to my GP they finally listened to helping me as in the past they’d done nothing. so apparently they now use the Devine method for calculating your weight which is lower so I still need to lose some more weight but at least I’m closer to my target now.
