hi all, rang my doc today and was told the results of my recent brain mri are in and i will receive a letter with the results this week. I was wondering if it was usual to get the results by post, or should I take this as a good sign that it was negative. Knowing I will find out this week is making me even more nervous, so any info from people will be much appreciated

Hi,
I got my MRI results in post, but also got a call from hospital to say the Neuro Surgeon (who was investigating my back problems at the time) had referred me onto the Neurologist because of the results.
My results didn’t actaully say very much anyway, the neuro I was referred to did the interpreting.
If there is anything that needs looking at I daresay you’ll get a fllow up call to arrange a neuro appt.
Hope it’s all ok for you and the results are good. xxx
thanks bunnythecat, appreciate it.
Hi, I would prefer to get results in person from whoever did the tests, but maybe it is a good sign.
If the terminology baffles you, then see your GP or arrange a neuro follow up.

It’s a tough one Jo, and I think it really depends on whether you want the news (good or bad) in person. I got mine in the post, and a couple of days later received a letter from my GP to make an appointment to discuss them. You could always book an appointment to see your GP, rather than waiting for the post to arrive. Best of luck hun.

My neuro said he would write to my GP with the results of my MRI and send me a copy of the letter, which he did. He then saw me after I’d had the other tests he wanted (an evoked potential and a lumbar puncture), and again he wrote to my GP with the results of the tests and my diagnosis, and sent me a copy.
I was expecting the MRI to show lesions, and I was expecting a diagnosis of MS - my GP suspected MS when I first saw him about my symptoms in the middle of 2012. The results of the MRI were not a surprise, and the second letter was confirmation of what my neuro had told me in person.
I’ve seen other consultants in the past who have written to my GP about me but haven’t copied me in. I think some of it depends on the doctor.
My Neuro copies me every time he writes to my GP, whether this be with test results or following a consultation. I think it is purely down to how each individual consultant works. I hope you get the results you’re hoping for xxxxx
yeah the docs secretary said a letter gets sent to me and my gp, so must be the way they do it, to be honest im glad i dont have to wait for another appointment to get some info on the mri, spent enough time waiting
thanks for your replies everyone
I’d kill to get the results by letter - after 5 months I’m still waiting… Of course I’m desperate for any information, but I guess it probably wouldn’t be regarded as best practice to deliver bad news by…
maybe i should count myself lucky then! well the week has almost gone by and i still dont have a letter, to be honest i have been worse this week than any other week, so nervous and just cant take my mind off it. i suppose its because my waiting peroid might be nearing an end…and i have been waiting 6 years!!! thanks for all your replies x
