Respite Care.

My husband has primary progressive MS. He has mobility problems and relies on walking aids and a scooter to get around. We live in a bungalow and he has a carer coming in once a day as i work full time. I take over his care when i get home. The problem is i am having an operation in the next couple of months and will be in hospital for 3 nights and unable to lift for up to 12 weeks. Is there are care where he can go while i am in hospital. My 2 children are 13 and 16 and wouldnt be fair to rely on them.

Hi, as your hubby is already in the system, I think he needs to ring his case manager and explain what`s happening. There is usually a contingency plan already arranged for times like this.

Good luck with the hospita stay.

You should hire a caretaker for a few days to take care of your husband. As you can’t rely on your kids and also professionals have a better knowledge of things. You can try for a nurse during day time and your kid can take care at night. Hope your operation will be successful and you come happier from hospital.
