really stiff legs

Hi all you lovely folk and I hope all are doing well.

Thought I would ask your advice (yet again) about what seems to be a worsening of my ms.

Diagnosed in 2009 with rrms, I started copaxone in 2016 and have been managing ok but these past couple of years have noticed things steadily getting worse.

I have been off work since March due to the covid and have been tripping quite a lot and my walking is awful. I can only describe the feelings in my legs/lower back as having elastic band tightly round them causing me to be very stiff. Has anyone else had this and is there anything I could maybe try to help?

Work as a p.s.a in a primary school which I love but would not want to be a risk to myself or anyone else with me tripping. Due to go back August 10th

Thanks folks and keep well.

Mary

Yes join the club I’ve also got really stiff legs . My calves are constantly in this cramp like state . It’s so annoying, I know how difficult this can make walking and mobility:((((

gentle stretching can help , along with massage. Having a relaxing bath with some salts helps too. You could ask your gp , or neurologist to prescribe you something for this. I’m aware that some people take baclofen for stiffness , and there’s a few other drugs but I can’t remember the names of them. Hope you find some relief.

Hi Mary

the physio called that stiffness - “Hypertonia”

Baclofen does help but be aware that when you first take it, it can work too well which is scary when you set off down the stairs.

as silver queen said, gentle stretching, massage and a nice bath help.

Hi, I too have really stiff legs, have had for many years, also a really stiff back, painful to. A physio once said to me…its like you’re made out of stone, thanks I thought, anyway I’ve been on Baclofen for about 12yrs, it helps a bit, but I have been thinking recently that its not having the same effect, a good piece of advice given to me by the physio was to take it slowly, tablets come in 10mg, she said to cut in 2 and start on 5 and always increase by 5, this way you cut the risk of falls, so that’s what I did and it worked for me. Good luck with wahtever you decide to go for.

Thank you all for your replies, have taken all on board and am seeing the neurologist mid August. Mary

I was suffering with really stiff legs and tight hamstrings, etc, until I discovered CBD oil and I have not looked back since. It’s been a game changer for me. Although, everyone to their own…

I use 10% black seed oil (hemp infused)

Thank you for your help.
