Really confused

Hi I’ve always described the worst of my symptoms as painful muscle spasms, but when I recently watched a neuro talking about the different kind of spasms and the treatments available none of them sounded like mine, so now I’m left wondering if I actually have muscle spasms or something else. It’s a difficult sensation to describe but , If I was to ask someone to bite down on a piece of wood with all their might even when it became painful clenching the jaw, thats what happens in my jaw and other strange places around my body for example, in my bladder I can feel that I’m desperate for a wee and the pain and tense muscles in my back and bladder just won’t relax even when my bladder is empty, plus same extreme tensing and squeezing sensation mostly in thigh musles but can be any where in my body , surely these are muscle spasms aren’t they? Thankyou so much for taking the time to read my post, any answers greatly appreciated, Mully

Hi Mully,

I have had similar problems with my bladder and thigh muscles going into spasm. I asked my GP for some instilagel sterile syringes for my bladder. I find that it helps the bladder relax as it is local anaesthetic and after about 40 mins the bladder is relaxed enough to pass urine.

I found this out because I had the syringes in stock after surgery on my pelvic floor and they were prescribed for pain relief. After starting with MS and having a bad attack with my bladder I decided to try the gel in my bladder to see if it helped and it did. I told my GP what I had done and he said well if it works I am happy to prescribe it for you. It did help that I was working as a nurse and midwife before I fell ill.

I am having physio on my hip because my pelvis is on a tilt so hoping to get some relief with that.

It is worth asking about the gel and maybe asking to be shown how to inject it through the urethra into the bladder if you are unsure about administration.

Take care hope you get some relief soon.

Hi

Sounds like it could be a case of spasticity. Does the description on this website match what you feel? http://www.mstrust.org.uk/information/publications/factsheets/spasticity.jsp?gclid=CPXMgtru5bsCFTHLtAodikoAzw

There are drugs that can help, like Baclofen or Gabapentin. Did your neuro prescribe anything?

Thanks very much for the replies, especially found the link useful, now I know I have spasticity. I don’t feel brave enough to inject anything into my bladder though, I will at least be able to explain my symptoms better to my GP. I don’t have a Neuro as we moved after diagnosis, I haven’t seen anyone since diagnosis and the whole thing was so traumatic I am too scared to go through it all again ,My gp is very nice though and will do anything to help, Thanks for the info Mully
