Hi everyone. Has anyone else experienced a strange revulsion to certain food smells? I can`t stand the smell of fish, (particularly tinned or smoked fish!), oranges when sliced open, and coffee! Unfortunately my husband really enjoys all these foods, so one of us has to leave the room. N.B. I am way beyone the age when anyone might suggest I might be pregnant!!
Hi Faith! I was just about to say that I experienced this when pregnant (along with umpteen others I suspect!!)
Could it be hormonal?
If not - all sorts of weird things happen in neurological disorders - I know a couple of people who have lost their sense of smell altogether - so interference with ‘perception’ of an odour must not be that unusual??
Do you have other symptoms? xxxjenxxx
Hi Faith, it’s true what Kizzdane says. Neurological disorders can cause all kinds of strange stuff. I sometimes get ‘phantom’ smells. Black pepper or burning plastic being my most common.
It could also be hormonal. Are you by chance menopausal? Could be that.
Hope it clears up soon!
