Hi,
My mum has MS and she recently has needed to get in touch with her neurologist to find out she has been discharged! The reason for this is because she hasn’t been in a while. I believe they should of let her know if she was going to be discharged. She now needs to go to her GP and be referred again which could take ages!
Does anybody know whether you can get private health insurance if you have Multiple Sclerosis?
Thanks for your help!
Kirstie
My husband was discharged by the MS nurse (without her telling us) because his primary issues were bowel and bladder and she thought they were not her expertise!! To go back to Private Health Insurance - my husband had Insurance but this was voided for all MS issues once he was diagnosed, so I would have thought the same would apply for a new policy
Hi, that’s terrible!
MS is a life long illness they shouldn’t be able to just discharge you without even letting you know. Also I have been looking up at private health insurance but companies won’t do it for MS. So annoying!
Hi Kirstie, Did your mum miss any actual appointments? My MS clinic has a sign up, saying that if you miss an appointment, you WILL be discharged, and have to be re-referred by your GP. I’m wondering if your mum may have overlooked one, or just decided not to go, without phoning in to tell them - that would be enough. You can almost certainly still get private health insurance for unrelated issues if you have MS, but not for any condition you already have, or, in most cases, have shown any previous signs of. If you can afford it, you can, however, pay for a private consultation about anything, without it having to be through an insurance company. You can just pay by credit or debit card, the same way you would for anything else. As it’s you that’s paying, there are no restrictions on existing conditions. You’d still need a GP referral, but coud be seeing someone in a matter of days, instead of joining the back of a 12 or 15 week waiting list. Tina
My mum has severe MS and has private medical insurance.
We are with AXA PPP… give them a call. They dont cover MS in general but they cover relapses. Its complicated and i dont know the Ins and outs of it as my dad deals with it…
Try them and Bupa… they are your best bet.
Good Luck xx
