How to access help...

I was on the waiting list to be seen by the MS Outpatients clinic as a priority. There was an admin. error and I waited just over a year. I then moved to London and I was told I would have to join the back of the waiting list in London!

For this reason, I decided to take out health insurance… but now I am unsure of how to proceed. The first step I would need to do is register with a local GP and then get a referral to my health insurer for approval.

Are there any other routes to quicker support?

Any advice appreciated.

God bless everyone.

Hi there, I’m sorry to say, but you have almost certainly wasted your money on the health insurance, as it will NOT cover any pre-existing condition.

I’m not sure, from your post, whether you’ve been diagnosed or not, but at the very least it seems MS was strongly suspected before you took out the insurance. For this reason, I doubt very much whether it - or any referral to Neurology for similar symptoms - will be covered.

Nevertheless, the way forward is the same. You cannot access a consultant either privately, OR on the NHS, without going via a GP. So yes, you need to register with a GP, and start the ball rolling.

To be honest, I don’t really understand your concerns about it not being quick enough, when the first step rests with you, but you have yet to take any action. Nothing can happen about any of it, unless or until you see a doctor.
