Just talking to a very close friend and we were talking about Prescription cost with long term permant illness if i need any prescriptions now or at a later date do MS patients cover fro help, I do not claim ant Dla or pips or anything, so dont know the process to find out.
Hi,
I’ve discussed this with my GP.
To be eligible for free prescriptions you need to have very limited mobility. The oth Ed criteria don’t fit.
However a Pre payment certificate is available for about £100 per year. I pay mine by ten monthly instalments of £10.80 per month and this covers all my needs. I currently get about 3 prescriptions a month so it more than pays for itself.
Regards
Adam
You’d need to speak to your GP, MS in itself doesn’t automatically give you entitlement but if there are meds you’ll always need, then ask.
I was diagnosed with PPMS and my mobility had worsened, so eventually I asked my doctor about it - he agreed and filled out the form to say I had permanent disability.

Yes, that’s what I do too.

I’ve always found it totally mystifying as well as unfair that MS isn’t one of the conditions that gives you automatic exemption from prescription costs. I get free prescriptions because I have an underactive thyroid. That being so, one cheap drug normalises it. And that gives me free prescriptions for everything else I take. This week, I’ve filled 8 prescriptions. One of which was for thyroxine. The rest were all MS related, and of course, all free.
So the only route to take is if you are seriously disabled and qualify to get exemption on that basis, as Sonia has. Or to pay an annual charge for a prepayment certificate.
Crazy.

I am the same as Sue, free scipts years ago due to Low Thyroid Function ( free now as I am OLD ! )
My son who has Crohn,s doesn’t get any help but needs constant lifetime medication…system is mad.

Before I got my scripts free, due to being over 60, I got them free as I ticked the box ‘person is unable to leave the house alone’.

Hi, is this of any help?
Help with NHS costs, Low Income Scheme. You can be working and not claiming means tested benefits to get this. Full or partial help with costs.
You can apply for the scheme as long as your savings, investments or property (not counting the place where you live) don’t exceed the capital limit. In England, the limit is:
- £23,250 for people who live permanently in a care home
- £16,000 for everyone else
Hi FP92A form. Your GP
He needs to sign it.
Worth a look at.
