Pregnant at 44 y.o. with MS

Hello fellow MSers. I got pregnant at 44, naturally, after a very long period of infertility. We were about to start IVF in September but we got lucky. It’s going to be my very first baby. Oh - and I have RRMS, I am on plegridy.

There is a lot to take in, but I thought of sharing my situation here. I have appointments with the MS nurse and the neurologist next month. The annual MRI has to be cancelled though.

I will see the midwife for the first time next Tuesday. They consider me high risk. I registered with the MS register for the pregnancy too. Jobwise, I am unemployed, on JSA, and looking for work. I feel like a cheat as I will have to attend job interviews and hide both MS and pregnancy. Meh.
Then, I have all this sickness, and my belly is already showing a little. Exciting and a bit worrying at the same time.

Any advice / tips are welcome. :slightly_smiling_face::upside_down_face: And if I can help anyone, or just listen, if you are in a similar situation, I am here for you.

Thank you all, I am so happy to read your messages. Yes, it’s exciting. I had never become pregnant before, never in my life… Honestly, we thought that we don’t stand a chance, we had totally given up. We were making plans for IVF, even fostering, adoption… I have PCOS but that was only the beginning. The doctors fixed my prolactine with medication (I had a prolactinoma, a tiny bening adenoma), and that’s how I managed to conceive without any fertility treatment whatsoever.

I also wanted to say thank you for being such a wonderful support network. I will keep you updated for major things on this forum, as I believe that my posts may encourage others in a similar situation.

I am not special. Surely I am not the first 44 y.o. with MS who was infertile but got pregnant, but you know, I am here to share my story, and most importantly, listen if you need a listening ear. I you are an MSer who has concerns about infertility, please don’t give up!!

How did it go, if you don’t mind me asking? Were there any concerns because of the MS? Did you get extra appointments and tests? Xx

Hi I dont have MS at the time( or didnt know I had )

For me the main concern was that Iwould need another c section. Long stories but i had already had 3 before.

Daughter was born at 36 weeks has they did not want me to go into labour.

Bless. Sounds complicated. I think that I may have a c-section too, call it intuition. Xx

The planned c sections were great. Got to see them both being born. All the people in the room were lovely and really made be feel calm.
