I have MS and just found out I’m pregnant

Hi everyone
Sorry I’ve been so distant I’ve had so much going on over the last few months, (my Dad collapsed and has been ill)
My MS nurse has said to me that if I want more children then start now as I’m getting worse and they want to change my medication but can’t if I’m pregnant or breast feeding…well I’ve just found out I’m pregnant (I’m really scared about this pregnancy) I’m just wanting some advice to see if anyone has gone through this and how was it? I’m hoping I will be ok and is there anything I should be aware of?
I know everyone is different but I’m really worrying about this and I’m scared how I will be giving birth and afterwards as I was told that is when I could possibly relapse and be really ill…!
I’m sorry about this!!

Congratulations. You probably know most of this stuff already already, but some of it might help ease your mind.

Thank you so much, I’ve not read this before as I only got diagnosed with MS in July it’s still quite new to me! I’m learning something new every day!

It might be worth trying Shift MS, as they tend to attract a younger membership.

Hey, I had my second child with ms (although I didn’t know it at the time). Pregnancy was fine but had a relapse when he was a couple of months old. Good thing is though that in your case you know so will be better prepared as I was on no medication at the time. I know some of the ms medications can be taken when breastfeeding so I would just advise to take your meds and manage stress etc very carefully for the first few months. My relapse happened after a really stressful weekend with the baby being unwell, a minor illness in hindsight but you know how it feels at the time when it’s your baby! We’d also just hosted both sides of the family over Xmas and new year so it was a very full on time. If I knew then what I know now I’d have taken things much easier x x

I had both my kids when I didn’t know I had MS, so drugs weren’t an issue with me, but I don’t remember having any relapses around their births. They were difficult deliveries, though, and hindsight showed that both should have been C-sections.

Congratulations! I have just had a baby 7months ago and my consultant said it was a blessing being pregnant as my body behaved lol but am having rebound relapses now since having her which is common but the pregnancy went without any issues, good luck huni

Hey sorry not messaged back…
My MS at the moment seems to be behaving and my consultant is very happy, I’m having regular check ups as I did have a relapse at the beginning of my pregnancy (I did not know I was pregnant) I think it’s my brain going into over drive a lot and worrying that something could happen, I’m learning to take 1 day at a time and take things slowly even if it’s a struggle as I’m always on the go…! Thank you all so much for the advice you have all given me, I’ve got my 12 week scan next week! It’s going so fast - I’m nervous but excited!!
Let’s hope it all goes well and if not then I will deal with that the time and not worry myself silly now!!

Congratulaions. Not talking from personaly experience here but I do remember reading MS symptoms have been known to behave during pregnancy. Hoping that eases any concerns you have of MS during your pregnancy. Have enough to focus on.
