Pregnancy

Hi everyone as some of you may know from past posts I am in limbo land currently and have a review appointment end of feb/march time. I just have a question for anyone who has had been pregnant or had a young baby whilst experiencing symptoms such as clumsiness, fatigue, blurred vision and parasthesia. Did you remain on symptom relief medication or did you find the pregnancy had a positive affect on symptoms or exacerbate them? And same for in the postnatal period and breastfeeding? My partner and I are planning for a baby and I am currently on amitryptyline on an increasing dose currently 50mg calculated on my weight. I am a midwife and know of women on amitryptyline throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding and that NICE guidance supports it’s use if needed and doesn’t note any major problems from use other than in very high doses, plan to breastfeed so reducing risk of withdrawal as amitryptiline passes in breast milk. So just wondering what womens experiences have been and neurologists reactions. I know they are not all the same but just to give me an idea. I have a teenage daughter so aware of normal pregnancy related and postnatal stuff but in my career I’ve never cared for a woman with these symptoms. Thanks in advance x

Hello

Not sure if you have posted again somewhere but can share my experience.

I was undiagnosed when I fell pregnant although had had many symptoms which I now know were due to MS. I felt the best I had done in years and noticeably so to all my colleagues. I wasn’t taking anything for pain as didn’t need it. The chances of relapse are greater postnatal I didn’t have a relapse until she was nearly 2, and that’s when I was eventually diagnosed.

If I were to have another child I would happily stop drugs (I am on amitryptyline too) because I didn’t need them whilst pregnant. Saying that everyone is different and I suppose each pregnancy is different too.
