poor balance

has anyone got any tips on how I can improve my balance?

my balance is geetting worse and staaggering about like a drunk even when using stick,i play indoor bowls,when i bend down to picck bowls up im losing my balance,same when delevering bowl,I can maybe aalter my delevery but still neeed to bend down to pick uop bowls,any suggestions of excersisethat maty help


You might find T’ai Chi helps.

Though I would ask your GP/MS nurse to refer you to a neuro physio, they should be able to help.

My neurophysio swears that practice helps balance. It seems to have helped me at least.

As Annie says, why not ask for a referral to one - they should be able to advise on exercises that will help.

My physiotherapist, has me standing on one leg at a time, apparently this works the core muscles as you try and keep your balance. The core muscles are very important for balance.

I repeat this exorcise at home, standing next to the banister rail.

Important, make sure you have something solid to grab/hang on to, as and when you loose balance.

I know its going to be a bad day when I get out of bed and miss the floor, today is such a day.


Pilates would probably help. My physio exercises are all based on Pilates ones. It’s designed to build on core strength and improve balance. Ask if you can be referred to a physio who specialises in neuro stuff. If there’s not one available you could try a Pilates class at your local gym, just remember to take your time and take lots of breaks rasther than trying to keep up with the instructore.
