PIP

Hi All I notice a few people are talking about PIP lately and wondered if anyone knew roughly how long it takes? I have filled my forms in and I am sending them off today and wondered how long it takes until you hear anything? Thanks Sam xx

Cheers Jen. It took them ages to get it to me but I did call just before christmas. Did you send any documents with yours like letters you had been cc’d into? Xx

I sent my form (new claim-never been on benefit before) back in October and have been told when I phoned to enquire that it will be February at the earliest before I get called in to ATOS for my ‘consultation’. I suppose then the DWP have to consider the information and make a decision so could take a further 3 months after that. I’m anxiously waiting now for my ATOS appointment : /

Yes I’ve heard they backdate it but I just wish they’d get a move on so I know what I’m entitled to. I think there is a backlog everywhere but worse in some areas than others. As soon as I hear anything I’ll come back and post on this thread and I’ll let you know what the interview is like. I’ve heard ATOS are more harsh than Capita.

Mines a new claim as well. What areas are you both in id you mind me asking? Xx

I can only go by what I’ve readon various FB sites, but it seems to be taking a looooong time…

Hi Mines has just been awarded and it took in total just under 5 months. It probably would have been longer if I had to go for medical face to face assessment but didn’t with the evidence I sent. With Atos it took them about 2 months from them getting my claim from DWP to access whether there was another evidence to not need a face to face assessment. Good luck everyone. Polly x

hi

I put my claim in oct 2013 I now have appointment this month,i live nr bristol.

good luck

graham

What evidence did you send Polly? Iv sent mine without but have got letters i have been copied into from my nurse to my gp and neurologist to my gp about getting worse n weakness in my legs and medication etc. it does say you can send it later on so might get that sent too. Thank you all for your advice xx

Hi, I sent them a copy of all the letters I received from the hospital which was scan result letter,my scan reports I got from hospital, letters of the appointment I’ve been to and future ones. I also sent them my hospital discharge letters. I also get help from DWP for access to work so sent them everything I received from them. I asked my doctor at the time for a medical report but she told me to save my money and wait to the DWP asked for it and they would pay her for it. I did and wrote on the form she advised for them to contact her. My gp is great as when she got contacted to complete a report she called me just to verify a few things before she completed it. It was my gp who told me to apply for PIP. I also sent them anything I received after I sent my form, I sent them my confirmation of DMD’s and I had Optic Neuritis after aswell so my gp told me to send that off the letters the Eye specialist gave me as she had already sent them my medical and advised me to update them about my vision problems. Anything you have I would copy and send to them even after you’ve sent the form. Polly xx

Thanks Polly. Your a diamond. My ms nurse told me to apply for PIP and helped me with the form bless her but forgot to ask about the letters and when I emailed her last night I got her out of office reply (how dare she have a few days off tut tut) xx

Hi Send anything that will help with your claim. I was shocked not to get a face to face assessment. My gp really helped me with mines she actually told me she dislikes doing the report the DWP sends as she can state medical facts but the only person that knows how you are on a daily basis is you. Good luck and hopefully you won’t be waiting too long as it can be a really slow process. Polly x

Hi SammyJo89, I live in West Yorkshire. Some parts of the country are covered by CAPITA and some by ATOS and it is ATOS in my area but my Access to Work assessment was done by CAPITA possibly because I work in the South Yorkshire area? Anyway I sent all my neurologist reports and MS nurse reports also confirmation of my Avonex and my catheter deliveries, and GP letters with prescription lists and a copy of my access to work report/ OHU reports and even a copy of the letter confirming I had satisfied the criteria for a blue badge from the Council. Basically everything I could think of! I’m also keeping a diary to show the medical practitioner to help show how my MS effects me over a few weeks. I don’t think there’s anything else I can do but wait. - Oh I also used the Benefits and Work website for information on how to fill the form in and it has some very useful information on how the DWP works. Good Luck to All : )

I initiated my claim on 10th October. I phoned for an update at the end of December and was told they were currently finalising claims from May and June so I’m not holding my breath  Did any of you get your award without having an ATOS interview? And were any of you successful in being awarded the upper mobility allowance? Karen xxx

Hi Karen I didn’t go to an atos interview and was awarded Standard Care and Enhanced Mobility. I have really bad leg tremors and keep losing the feeling in my feet, I was assessed already with Access to Work for my mobility who are also part of DWP so believe it may be down to me already receiving help for my mobility from them with taxis to and from my work and other evidence that they had enough to award me with a face to face assessment. Without a face to face doh!

My nurse said out of 15 people she has told to do it only 1 had a face to face xx

Thanks guys  xxx

Good to read all posts about this. I also sent off claim (never claimed before) - sent form 27/12/13 and heard nothing at all. x

Hi all. I had my face to face in Nov chased up today and Atos not sent to dwp. Phoned them and it is still in there quality control same as a month ago.
