Hi sorry is this is bit long, I was referred for irrigation system by bladder and bowel services for my Neurogenic bowel I also have various prolapses Th irrigation nurse was from a private company She was running an hour late as she was stuck in traffic so was a little bad tempered She had me strip to the waist for an examination Then she accompanied me to the bathroom and went through the irrigation system together and basically she supervised the procedure much to my dismay) I hoped she would leave it with me and i could try it in my own time After putting in the catheter and inflating the balloon After pumping in some water ther was very slight leakage of water around the balloon ,At this point she announced it wasn’t working for me and told me to deflate the balloon (she was very short tempered) at this point I had pumped in 100mls when the catheter was removed I would say I definately passed a 100mls of liquid However she impatiently packed it away and promptly left I really don’t think I had long enough to try it I have been informed that if irrigation fails I will need a colostomy wish I really don’t want So I have ordered one online to try Paying £25 pounds seems a very small price to pay before I decide it doesnt work and go down the colostomy route The problem is it only comes with 2 catheters which of course are single use and I don’t know if I can get them on prescription Is anyone else using this system and did you have any leakage around the balloon
Hi mully. I had an operation last year unconnected to my ms. I’ve never had the perristeen irrigation system, but I had a catheter inserted after the operation which I had in for 13 days. That leaked all the time and even though I went to A&E on one occasion, they never did sort it. So I ended up wearing a pad too, which isn’t ideal, when you have a catheter. Wishing you well and hope you get something sorted.
