Peripheral nervous system....

Hi All,

Can anyone explain to me why my research is throwing up that tingling in the hands, feet, arms, face etc are common first symptoms, but that I also read MS doesn’t affect the peripheral nervous system, which these issues would apparently fall under? I’m really confused! Are these classic MS symptoms or not, and if so, what is the mechanism for these nerves being affected if MS only affects the CNS not the PNS?
(I’m getting a lot of issues that could be peripheral neuropathy but accompanied by other things like cognitive issues and fatigue etc which wouldn’t be explained by peripheral neuropathy, so I’m wondering if I have peripheral neuropathy plus the brain of a mum to young kids :joy:, or if in combination it could be something more…but since the peripheral nerve symptoms are the most dramatic ones if they aren’t likely to be MS related I wouldn’t be so bothered about the other things, it’s only when they’re in combination with the tingling, buzzing, constant twitching, prickling etc that I am wondering if it could be something more concerning).

Thanks for any insight, I don’t quite get it as the information seems to directly contradict itself!

I can’t answer everything you’ve asked but I had tingling in legs and feet, left hand and left side of the face inc my lips.

Though they tried putting this down to other things first.

So I wouldn’t say that they aren’t typical of MS

This is guesswork from someone who does not even have a biology O Level, so take this with a big pinch of salt, but I have heard that nerve symptoms around the trunk are more likely to be CNS, while symptoms on (for instance) limbs can be either.

p.s. I hope you get a better-informed answer than mine, and that shouldn’t be difficult.
