part diagnosis at last, update

Hi all,

just had a diagnosis of Ménière’s disease for the loss of hearing, balance vertigo and tinnitus from GP. He did say this was not connected to everything else I have. He gave me some tablets and sent me on my way. So now just trying to find out what I can do to improve this and what I should do next. If anybody else can share anything with me, I would be grateful. Spinning rooms is not a pretty site, especially when it has not been earned by alcolhol…lol xx

‘Just posted above on New Diagnosis and before diagnosis, included here as i know you all are full of useful information and help’

Hi, just did a quick google of menier`s.

Nasty little chuff, innit?

I have about 80%-90% hearing loss in my right ear. People have to be at my left side in conversation.

It is much, much worse when there is background noise. Eating out is also a problem, as i have to look at people`s faces when they are speaking to me…difficult when I or they have mouthfuls of food!

I did join a lip reading class a few years ago and it did and still does help.

Luckily for me, I dont have vertigo or tinnitus. Horrible things to live with, I`m sure.

Do you have trouble getting to sleep? Someone at the lip reading classes said she had a pillow, which makes soothing sounds to help. She got it from the Social Worker for deaf people.

thanks for reply poll, yes I have simular loss on my right ear too, getting to sleep and being woken up with tinnitus is a huge problem, I am going to start a therapy course via Tinnitus therapist soon, so I will ask her about the pillow. thanks for the tip.

Hi That is what they thought I had before I was diagnosed, but don’t get alarmed as I didn’t have consistent hearing loss and the ENT consultants were clutching at straws to give me a diagnosed, so much so that when I went for my next appointment I then said I had MS and they replied that’s good. I can sympathise with you with the vertigo it is one of worse symptoms I hate it. I don’t actually drink but often say to my friends why do you get drunk if you feel like this with dizziness we have a good laugh with each other when we can be out for the evening and I’ve been drinking coke all evening and I get out of the chair, can’t walk in a straight line, falling over and I look completely hammered. Hopefully the tablets will help ease things with the disease, they are supposed to be effective. Sending you hugs Barney

I too look like I am drunk too, its odd. But I do hate the room Spinning. Audiology wanted to refer me to ENT, so they sent a letter to my GP and he said my referral was checked by another team and becuase I have had an MRI and it showed no tumour they refused my referral to ENT. I told GP about the Vertigo and becuase I already have hearing loss and tinnitus he diagnosed the Meneire’s. All very odd. He said it had nothing to do with my other symptoms. Although the tablets have worked a treat.

Hi

My Uncle had this for (to my Knowledge) 30+ years. It was kept under control with tablets, it took a while ot sort out the right tablets.

He lived a normal live with no problems, Lived to 85
