Not vanished

Hi Everyone. Sorry, I haven’t done a runner, though some may wish I had. I’ve had a hell of a couple of weeks and haven’t found time or energy to visit. I will have a look through the forum at some stage.

My dad was found on Saturday morning by my mum in a severe state of shock, he may have had a seizure due to being unable to breathe and was rushed to hospital, ending up in ICU. He’s just picked up enough to be moved out but they are certain he too has a progressive neurological illness. My Neuro is treating him which is the best news ever as he’s wonderful, and he doesn’t believe in giving a dx until he’s certain, but they think he has Motor Neurone Disease which as I’m sure you all imagine is devastating to me, less so to the rest of the family who have only a basic knowledge of anything medical and haven’t been told yet about this possibility so think he’ll be just like me. Having been a nurse once the staff explain more to me than them.

I just wanted to let those of you I “speak” to, to know that the difficulties with the forum upgrade haven’t sent me running for the hills (just yet) Take care everyone

Sorry to hear this Cath; try and stay positive, hope things get better for you. And what’s happened seems to be more evidence about the role that genes play in neurological illnesses. All the best, CP

Thanks to all of you for your lovely comments. I’m very lucky to have friends like you! We just want to get him home but his chest muscles are very damaged and he keeps stopping breathing overnight so they’re talking about sending him to a Neuro unit for all the tests he needs then to Manchester to be readied for CPAP at home during the night. We’re a very close family so it feels like one huge blow after another. We must have been really bad beggars in a previous life, but whatever lies in front of us we’re determined we’ll cope with living one day at a time just like we all do when we have one of our bleak episodes.

Thanks again for all your support, it really means a lot when things are tough. Take care and look after yourselves.
