Neuropathic Pain Struggles

I’m really struggling with neuropathic pain across the left side of my chest and around into my back, I can’t wear a bra as it’s too painful and my sleeping is awful, I’m having to sleep the best I can sitting up.

I’m on Pregabalin, after switching from Amitriptyline and I will be increasing that again next week to 100mg twice a day.

Does anyone have any ideas that can also help with the pain aside from medication? Thank you

That sounds awful. There was a prescription only cream called Axsain that my GP prescribed for me long ago for neuropathic pain round my ribs. It was really good but when I last looked they had discontinued it. It’s made of the active substance in chili peppers believe it or not and it confuses the nerves on the skin just enough to really help. It might be they’ve started making it again so it’s worth a check maybe.

I am no expert on this but wondered if heat packs or cool packs might help?

There is some information on the MS Society website about pain and what might help too I think. That might be useful.

Wishing you well

I have been using magnesium oil spray especially for muscular pain. I use it at night which has stopped the cramps in my limbs when i wake in the morning, it might work for you?

Thank you, I’ll ask my MS nurse when I speak to her about that

Thank you, I’m not sure they would. The pain is really deep and it’s an intense itching sensation too but I can give it a try

Thank you, I take magnesium at night for restless legs but I’ll look into this

I am experiencing similar on right side and I can’t find anything to ease it! Have you had any success yet?

No, unfortunately not! I feel like I want to chop my breast off most of the tim!

Same here! It’s so draining and makes me anxious :sad_but_relieved_face: Goes round to shoulder blade and sometimes rhs ribs/back!

One other suggestion – cold water. It really helps my hands when I get those infuriating MS itches, and they also help with a bit of neuropathic pain I get on the back of my neck when overheated. A cold shower is my friend with that one.

I was on amitriptyline for ages but they didn’t really help. I have found Duloxetine so much better. It’s always worth trying something else if you’re able.
