Hi, Since day 1 18 months ago, I’ve had fairly constant burning pain in left foot & lower leg. This has fluctuated between horrendous & reasonably tolerable for which I take gabapentin. Recently, I’ve noticed the top of the foot actually appears to be bright red, as if burned. After a shower it’s positively glowing!! Seems a bit odd. Anyone else experience this? Thanks
Is it possible it’s not neuropathic pain, and you’ve actually hurt your foot?
MS pain isn’t usually associated with any visible inflammation or tissue damage, because the pain signal really originates in the brain or spinal cord, and not in the part it seems to come from.
Weak or tight muscles, or abnormal gait can make you more vulnerable to REAL injury, though. I tend to pull muscles at the-drop-of-a-hat. Occasionally, the injury is bad enough to cause visible external bruising. Might you have done something like that?

Hi, mmm, now this is something I am currently concerned about for myself and have had a district nurse put a name to it;
ERYTHEMA…or something like that, as i`m not too sure of the spelling.
I have this redness and soreness (which can actually be strong pain at times) on my heels. I am immobile, so that doesn`t help.
I thought it was caused by pressure points, as I spend quite a lot of time in bed. I have an air circulating mattress.
The other day, the nurse came and said she thought it could be more to do with poor circulation and not so much down to pressure.
Have a google at erythema and see if it fits you. Then see your GP, yeh?
I think I will have to.

Hi,
When my TN was at it’s worse I used to get redness on my cheek and down my neck. It was def. associated with the neuropathic pain but was not in itself painful. One sip of wine could set it off and I ended up looking like a tomato.
It just went away and, touch wood, I’ve not had it for a number of years.

Thanks folks. Interesting to hear this is not completely isolated. I have thought my foot has felt noticeably more peculiar over the past few weeks with the decreasing temps (am in Bonny Scotland), almost like chilblains. I shall mention it to the ms nurse, I think. Anne
Hi Zigzag.
The top of my left foot (my bad leg) does go bright red sometimes, particularly in hot weather and like you, after a shower. It also goes a lacy pattern of red/blue. My doctor thought it was cellulitis, but I really don’t think it is that because it is not sore at all and goes off quite quickly. Another weird ms thing I guess.

Urticurea…I’m sure thats not spelt right is a possibility and well worth a google

morning, yes I get this, both legs, and in my feet, it’s now started showing in my face, and Jane is right, wine sets it off, I was told by my Neuro that this is nerve pain, my skin changes colour, and boy does it burn, or for me really cold as well, I can no longer take a bath, because as soon as the warm water gets to my ankles I have a reaction, feels like I want to be sick, and the pain is horrible, I’m on Gabepentin at the moment, but going to see my GP this morning about changing to Pregabalin, not sure I’m looking forward to this
