Walking on fire

Hi, does anyone else feel like there feet are been pricked with a thousand hot pins, and then when you lye down your legs feel as if they are burning then there is the itching when you scratch especially on the face it feels as if ants are crawling under the skin, what meds do you take to ease it, Then there is the problem with walking its such a struggle and painful to walk it makes me want to cry sometimes any advice aprèsseated

Dear Tatty,it sounds like your pain is Neuropathic. The simpleton’s explanation is that sensory input is ‘mangled’ by areas in the brainwith damage to the nerves, and percieved as pain.I have feet and my GP furnishes me with a range of ‘painkillers’.GABAPENTIN and LAMOTRIGINE are Epilepsy drugs,BUTRANS MORPHINE PATCHES and OROMORPH speak for themselves.I have tried many drugs, but these are the favourite at the moment.I have also had a spinal implant (SCS) performed twice, but it didn’t help,so I’ve got no extra bits.Because I cannot get SATIVEX so I smoke the ‘real deal’ and it helps.

I reckon the pain in the feet and immobility go hand in hand as a normal person can stand and walk like a human 'cos of the way the sensory input from the feet is interpretted along with other stimuli like eyesight and the wonderous workings ot t’Inner Ear.

I would suggest that after you have hobbled to the GP get to your neurologist ASAP and/or speak to an MS nurse. For the rest of the time keep off your feet as much as possible and try different shoes, bits of carpet to put your feet on,warm/cold water and anything which will alter sensory input. The thought of a wheelchair or a scooter may apall you,but unless this is part of a relapse it probably won’t change much and fighting the pain is the way to try and retain some sanity.

As for the 'Itchy and Scratchy I don’t suffer particularly but some of the drugs mentioned may help. Many many peeps suffer like this and to an extent you’ll have to find your own ‘solutions’.The medics may be the experts, but we are the users.

Good luck, Wb

ps Keep your feet warm

pps Other drugs have included, pregabalin.diclofenac, duloxetine, amytriptiline, I V and oral steroids, and my particular favourite…Red Wine

i like wb’s suggestions especially the red wine and the spliffs

i use double base gel for dry skin and put it on any itchy bits. its worth a try because even if you still itch at least you’ll have skin in good condition.
