Nerve conduction test negative

Hi all,

Just an update really, had my nerve conduction test this morning, tested negative for peripheral neuropathy which took me by surprise as I really thought I had nerve damage. I didn’t have a EMG done which I am confused about. Just a back story, I have had perniment pins and needles, cramps in my feet for over 6 years, I have mild foot drop in my right foot. Sometimes it feels like I have celotape stuck to my toes, plus other symptoms but now I am in limbo, negative for peripheral neuropathy so now what? The neurosurgeon mentioned physical therapy, I don’t see how that would help with paresthesia (my doctor diagnosed me with) has anybody been through similar? Does that rule out Ms? I apologise if this is in the wrong topic. Does a negative nerve conduction test rule out any disease within the nervous system? Thank you for reading.

I have never had a nerve conduction test.

To confirm MS I had 2 MRIs, a lumber puncture, and lots of blood tests.

My nerve conduction tests came back ‘normal’ whilst I was undergoing loads of tests to see what was causing my symptoms (incl. parasthesia). That was 2 - 3 years prior to a dx of MS due to lesions showing up in a different part of the CNS and at a different time + positive Lumbar Puncture.

I am guessing doctors like to refer you to a nerve conduction test first to rule out peripheral neuropathy before going down the route for a mri ect, because I know they are costly. I feel deflated really because I know they’re going to Send me to physical therapy first just to escape sending me for further testing. I am just assuming that will be the case. It is frustrating, I feel like it’s something more as I have had these problems for 6+ years and my symptoms are getting worse. Thank you both for your replies, I appreciate it.

Another update, I had a brain mri scan on Monday, now in limbo land waiting for the results, they said 2 weeks but we shall see.
