Need to get away for a few days

Hi Janice again to anyone who knows me, need your help big time, been through and still going through really bad time. Started approx 12 weeks ago when my daughters husband left her, he trashed their home, but I found out he sexually abused my daughter and then a week or so later my grandaughter broke down saying he did things to her, he was also violent, jealous and hit the kids. He was arrested and charged with 2 counts of abuse to harm and is out on bail.the 2 sexual abuse charges the judge gave the police longer so they could look in to his past. My daughter fell 2 days after he left and seriously damaged her knee she’s still in severe pain and on crutches and cannot get up stairs .

i myself no totally believing I had ms asked for an app to see dr Thomas my ms dr, who took me though my last MRI scan showing me the damage on my brain, at least I know I have one, but she the asked the usual questions and did a few tests and told me I was well into a transition period and now did no longer have rrms but she said I have spms, been again for scans of brain, neck.

i so need to get away and relax from everything but do not know where to go, I am scared of going on my own and my hubby cannot come, but the truth of it is I need a few days away from family, my son said if he had to he would come with me, but I have no clue where to go, how to get there on my own , totally stuck , please please can some one give me some advice… I have the first court date coming up on 9 th Nov for my daughter against her ex and I feel I could easily just break down , please any advice will help

Jeez, tough time. Seems like youre keeping a lot of balls in the air! Something new is always cropping up with ms isnt it? Im quite a new user but I get the feeling well all find a lot of understanding here.
If you need a few days rest, perhaps you dont need to go too far from home - being relatively close by might give you the edge on feeling worried about being on your own. Just a few miles into the countryside or nearby seaside might be enough to give you a rest. I might think about air bnb; Air bnb has really surprising little places and flexibility of days, cheap all things considered, without being in a hotel with all the trappings. Perhaps you could rent someones flat out for a few days, somewhere pretty with a balcony? If your son is willing, maybe you could literally just be dropped off at the door with supplies, and simply picked up again a few days later. Especially if it was only a few miles away and he drives. Potter out if you want to/able to, or just sit on a balcony somewhere and soak up the last of the summers sunshine while you build up your energy. No fuss no muss, etc. And youd be close by in case of unforeseen events. Well thats my little suggestion. Otherwise, best wishes for all those balls in the air

Hi Janice

sorry to read what an awful time you’re going through. Totally understand the need to get away. Due to my RRMS, we (husband and I, but mostly me) didn’t have our usual fortnight away. I booked three separate short breaks instead, spread out over the spring/summer.

Three beautiful locations and it was so relaxing. We live in the Midlands so I chose cottages within a two hour distance by car as I have problems sitting for longer than that.

I book through Stillwells at www.cottagesdirect.co.uk and source the special offers, I found some great short breaks, the most I paid (early September was just £95 for two adults plus dog.

If you have a look, at this time of year you’ll get some great deals.

If travelling is difficult could you just book in to a fairly local hotel for a couple of nights? You’d feel the benefit of just getting away from your usual routine.

Hope things improve for you and your daughter & granddaughter,

Hi Janice,

I completely understand and I can sense the despair in your post.

Have you spoken to Adult Social Services section at your local authority?

They should be aware of the circumstances of both you and your daughter and may be able to give you guidance with regard to respite care. You certainly need it.

Anthony.
