Worried for My mum - she can't cope

My mum is in her 70s and was diagnosed with MS a few years ago. In the past year she has deteriorated quickly. She has these “episodes” where she is in agony and is able to sit or lie down for the whole “episode” she is either walking or crawling on her hands and knees. She is in a terrible amount of pain. She has medication but this does not seem to be helping anymore. The last episode lasted 5 hours. She then slept for 6 hours and had another 5 hour episode. Has anyone heard of this before or have any advice. We have called for an ambulance twice before but they don’t seem to take it seriously. Any support is appreciated

Hi I don’t have experience to share just wanted to say hello. Must be really tough to see. Is her GP aware? I’m sure there should be a more effective pain treatment available. Does she have an MS Nurse? L x

I don’t have experience of this either but if it was my mum I’d get her straight to hospital the next time she had and ‘episode’ and I wouldn’t leave until something was done to help her. Make a nuisance of yourself if you have to, that’s what I had to do when I had a relapse (although I had no idea it was MS) and was told to ‘go home and take an Asprin!’ Pah!

Hope you and your mum get the help you deserve.

Hugs. xx

Thank you Star1981 and Stitch No she doesn’t have an MS nurse. She has been in A&E twice with it, but they look at her like she is mad. They dose her up on morphine and Valium and send her home again. She has a doctors appointment on Friday and I am going with her as I don’t think she tells them all of what happens. I am armed with info from this website and will go and fight her corner for her. She has spent far too long saying it’s not bad, it’s just part of getting old. After last weekend it definitely is bad. Thanks for your support, hoping you are all well Xx
