I have secondary progressive health MS and receive PIP but I don’t know if this pays NI like “signing on” does anyone know?

Hiya Helen, I’ve been on pip since last year and it’s not covered my national insurance my work covered that until I got let go. Then I signed onto ESA and now that covers the national insurance .

As @animali, if you are on ESA then your NI “stamp” gets paid. If on JSA your NI isn’t covered. You would need a separate discussion with your job centre to determine if you should switch from JSA to ESA. In 2026 the systems will be overhauled and the two DWP benefits are set to merge.
PIP is a separate benefit paid on impairment and unconnected to NI.
