Hi I posted this in just diagnosed but don’t think anyone takes it. I saw my gp yesterday and she prescribed it for the pain in my legs. She said amytripteline would be better but I can’t take that. Has anyone had any success with it please Xxx
Hi Nikki Just wanted to ask if if was helping yet or does it take a week or so to kick in like the amytriptiline? Teresa xx
I haven’t taken any yet! I hate taking medication so have to pluck up courage lol. i think it works straight away the doc said its part of the ibuprofen family. I don’t want to take it l the time and I havent done anything today so decided to wait. I have to do the school run later so will try it then Xxx
I take it sometimes and it’s ok for me but I find paracetamol+ibuprofen or Tramadol works better. I think it depends on what type of pain you have (mine is mainly muscular) i.e. for neuro pain*, Pregabalin, Amitryptilene or Gabapentin seem to be the ones most often prescribed*.
Mags xx
Thanks mags. I tried paracetamol and ibuprofen but they didn’t make a difference. I know I sound thick but how can you tell the difference between Neuro and muscle pain? It doesn’t feel like it does when I pull a muscle. I already take a high dose of lamictal for epilepsy so not sure if I could take any other aed’s and amitriptyline is out as it can worsen seizures. Xxx
Ah…there’s the rub…I think of neuropathic pain as being like stabbing, electric shock type pain, but I’m giving Gabapentin a go to see if my worst pain (burning, muscular pain like too much exercise or the feeling of being run over by a tank) is actually neurological so I won’t know for a week or two. Wish I could help more hun. Can you describe the type of pain you feel?
M xx
I describe nerve pain as being like toothache in my bones. It is totally different to muscle pain. I take gabapentin for nerve pain. I also take 25mg of amitriptyline morning and night. I too dont like taking drugs but I am very glad they are there or I would not be able to cope with the pain.
Mary
I get a feeling like my bones are burning but all the time, like a dull burning sort of pain. Every now and then I get a shooting pain down one or both legs.Im never sure though whether I get that because of the way I’m walking. I’m very wonky lol Mary I’m getting to that now I am going to admit defeat and go with it. I have always had a high pain threshold (3 babies and no pain relief) but this is a whole other league. Xxx
The burning sounds like neuro pain like Mary’s Nikki. The shooting pain could be neuro or a trapped nerve…
We’re all (mostly)winky-wonky and it’s not defeat hun. Childbirth is one thing (they’ve got to come out one way or another) but constant pain really grinds you down. Tis very boring and makes us very grumpy!
Hope they give you the good stuff soon hun.

My GP prescribed 250mg Naproxen 2x a day for my pain. I also take 50mg Amitriptalyne at night. I have had some occasional breakthrough pain but not very often. Beats being in constant pain IMHO
Well this morning I woke up barely able to move (overdid it last night) I took one and it has helped, I’m still in pain but its tollerable and I can move at least.
Thanks for all the input.

Please take them when you need them and obviously according to the instructions. You don’t need to suffer without help Nikki. Take care of yourself. Teresa xx
Thanks Teresa. I think I was jumping the gun a bit. I have taken the full dose I can and the pain is back with a vengeance. Roll on Tuesday so help gets little bit closer. Xxx
I was on it just after dx. It didn’t help with pain and I stopped taking it and went on to Amitriptyline which has worked.
I found that it did help the nerve eczema I have been suffering with ever since the birth of my daughter though, as after I stopped Naproxone the itching came back.
