Muscle twitching

Well I have had quite a few muscle twitches, my thumb twitched and I think it damaged a ligament or something and after a week my gp injected it and that cured it. I have a big muscle in the right hand side of my back that kills me as it gets worse and worse but never relaxes, I did not know what was going on there till my Rheumy told me last week he could see and feel it and sent me for xray.

So today standing in a waiting to pay in a shop. this same muscle in the other side of my back sort of ‘kicked me’ I call this a kick rather than a twitch because this actually hurt, now 6 hours later I can still feel both these muscles the right side really hurts as usual but the one on the left is not totally relaxed.

Please can anyone relate to this and offer any advice, I am going to ask my gp for Baclofen or something like but he does not work on Fridays.

Anyone Someone

Hi Sally, oh the old muscle twitches! Awful eh? Actually what you are describing is more likely to be muscles spasms. They are much stronger and yes can hurt badly.

I’m not on Baclofen myself but I have heard it’s really helpful for spasms. I personally find Amitriptyline helps keep them at bay… but I still get them sometimes.

I would advise to pace yourself as much as possible… so lots of little rests between tasks (although I know that’s not always possible). Anything that relaxes you can help… warm bath or anything that helps you relax… but really seeing the GP is your best bet as often nothing will help but a good drug.

Hope they calm down and you get to see the GP Monday.

When I sit and rest I feel a little twitch on my right calf and right thumb Although I can’t see the one on. My calf.

Thanks for the replies but I actually wanted someone to say ‘no that is definitly not ms’. Pat I have been on the Amys for two years, now taking 30mgs at night, I did not sleep at all without them.

I sleep now, feel I could sleep for at least two days if my cat would let me, but it is a ‘dead’ sleep if you know what I mean.

When I was younger I always slept well but I never seemed to move at all all night. Everyone I have ever slept with (sisters when younger) has said the same I seem to ‘die’ at night.

Muscle twitches are common in MS, but they also happen in other conditions and even happen completely on their own, when someone has nothing else wrong with them.

I take baclofen and pregabalin for mine. I don’t know for sure why, but I need to take both to keep the twitches under control.

Maybe ask your GP about baclofen?

Karen maybe because Pregablin on it’s own would not stop them, well not for me anyway as I have been on Pregablin for over one year.
