I was wondering if anyone has any experience of extending a Motability lease beyond the three years? The car I have really suits my needs and I will be sad to change it as I don’t want an electric car yet, but there isn’t anything remotely as good as this one!
What would be the pros and cons of keeping the same car? I know it’s not a bad problem to have but if anyone has done it I’d be interested to hear,
Hi, I’m looking into getting a mobility car and I wou,d prefer to keep a car longer than the 3 years they state. As I understand it they can extend the lease up to 5 years but you would need to speak to them. There is someone I was told of who extended his lease to 10 years because he had so many adaptions - he is seriously disabled - but that is an extreme case. Speak to mobility and let us know how you get on.
Thank you so much for your reply. The Motability website says a lease an be extended for two years so it’s interesting to hear of it being longer. I haven’t got adaptations yet, I just really like the car.
I will speak to them when renewal is due early next year and decide then. I’ll let you know. Good luck with your application, it’s a great scheme.
We have extended my husband’s Motability vehicle due to similar circumstances. The initial lease was the normal 3 years. We extended it by 2 years towards the end. They said that was the maximum you could extend it by. If you have a WAV this would probably be different as the initial lease is for 5 years. Motability Operations were brilliant in helping us. As far as I remember the vehicle had to be in good condition and there was a limit to the mileage it had. Hope this helps, Alison
We have extended my husband’s Motability vehicle. It has to have a reasonable mileage, can’t remember what. The maximum you can extend it by is 2 years. They were very helpful in Motability Operations in assisting us. Hope this helps. Alison
