Mental absence

I am staying in a farmhouse B&B during the week. It is a lovely place, old and creaky, nothing fits the plaster is rough, full of character and atmosphere. I love it here. Yesterday evening I left my room at 6.30 and went downstairs to dinner. I hadn’t closed the curtains or drawn the blind. I would only draw the blind anyway. When I draw the blind I never draw it close to the window I just let it hang over the ledge. There is a miniature cushion on the window sill on a miniature chair. It contains tissues…very quaint. The dresser light was on. I went to dinner but when I got back to my room things had moved. The blind was closed neatly behind the nick jacks on the sill. The miniature cushion was beside the bed. The dresser light was off. The main curtains were drawn. Nobody could have entered the room as it was locked. Did I move all of these things with no connection to what I was doing? I don’t want to have mental absences again like I had last year. It was this time last year I was seriously bonkers because of interferon poisoning. I thought I had recovered. I certainly feel better and my personality is back to normal. But what happened yesterday? What was it? Like · · Share · Promote · 2 minutes ago ·

I’m sure the proprietors must have duplicate keys, although I do think it’s a bit “off” if they entered your room without permission, and moved stuff. But it’s not impossible. Perhaps they noticed your light was still on, but you were down at dinner, and they are a bit zealous about things like that?

If it had been at home, I’d agree there was no other plausible explanation than that you did it yourself, and forgot. But in a hotel or guest house? No, all sorts go on. Someone might have entered your room, albeit not with malicious intent. But I wouldn’t leave valuables lying about, just in case.

I’d definitely think it was more likely somebody was doing a spot of “housekeeping”, than that you’re losing your marbles.
