Mandatory Reconsideration - good news (eventually)

I received my Mandatory Reconsideration letter today. I was disappointed when I opened it - no change to the award. The points awarded were exactly the same as before. OK, I thought, what’s the procedure for a tribunal? Then I read further. In the section where the Decision Maker justifies the decision there was reference to difficulties with daily living and mobility, and enhanced awards for both. What’s going on?

I phoned the PIP helpline and spoke to a very helpful man. Apparently two letters have been sent out. I was told to throw away the one I received today, which was the first of the two. The front page and points are wrong. I have been awarded enhanced rate for both components. I should receive the second letter some time next week.

That’s great news. I will be writing a letter over the weekend asking for mandatory reconsideration. Can I ask if you were waiting long for your result.

Hooray for you! I bet you’re a very Cheerful Dragon today. Did they say how long the award is for? Some people have been given 10 year awards. Which is the maximum I think. But woohoo anyway.

I always send out two letters in each envelope. One has everything I want to convey and the other - the complete opposite.

I was trained while at the DWP under Chris Grayling. It saved getting our facts right in the first a place. Saved a fortune!

I would so like that to be a joke but why do I think it isn’t?

Mind you the Inland Revenue clearly has the same training programme. In the last month I have had 10 separate tax code letters each contradicting the last one. The best was receiving 3 on the same day all with the same date!

At last some good news!

Have a very Merry Christmas Cheerful Dragon.

I’ve had similar from the Inland Revenue in the past. But they did once give me a tax rebate of £1300. Very unexpectedly. I’m still not quite sure how they got to that figure. I never questioned it and neither did they. I’ve kept a very low profile with R&C ever since. Think I’m now safe from them figuring out whether it was wrong. (I still don’t know if it was. Shhh!)

I think it was about three weeks. Not too long, any way.

The review/reapplication will be in 2022. Six years isn’t too bad. And this time I’ll make sure I have the medical evidence ready when I submit the form.
