Hi All,
I have been taking amantadine twice a day for at least a year now but within the last few months I have started getting heartburn/indigestion/burning sensations when i took it before food. So i started taking it after food to try and stop this which worked for a while but now it’s started happening even after food but only for the early morning dose.
I have no other problems that I can link to the medication just this and I wondered if anyone else had this too or could advise what you used apart from getting shares in anti-acid tablets.
I tried MS nurses but they fobbed me off to the doctors, who are even more useless so thought best to ask someone on here see if you have had the same experiences.
Thanks in advance.
Not sure it’s any help, but this study concludes Amantadine is just a placebo.
" Interpretation: Amantadine, modafinil, and methylphenidate were not superior to placebo in improving multiple sclerosis fatigue and caused more frequent adverse events . The results of this study do not support an indiscriminate use of amantadine, modafinil, or methylphenidate for the treatment of fatigue in multiple sclerosis."

Unfortunately I didn’t get on with this medication- hallucinations, night terrors and sleep paralysis meant I was only on it for a brief amount of time!
I know my consultant said that unfortunately it does come with several plausible side effects (which is frustrating when it’s considered one of the only fatigue medications) but if you have any concerns, I would suggest you bring it up with your consultant/gp asap
