Limbo

Ok here goes it all started about 2 years ago I was on a train heading to placement and something strange occurred on the train I felt like I was about to faint, my eyesight went kind of dim and I felt really weak. That passed and about a week later I got what I thought was a “flu/virus” this entailed flu like symptoms, waves of weakness, sore arms legs, tingling in hands when sleeping howeer this would go away during the day.i suppose I could attribute it to a flu or some sort of virus. At the same time I also developed this sensation of unbalance however I never lost my balance. This went on for months the docs put it then down to post viral fatigue and after about 4 months I gradually got better. However the balance sensation stayed with me and escalated and this was put down to labrynthitis. I can remember the day when the balance actually turned worse . When I researched the symptoms of this it was almost identical to what I had , sensation of unsteadiness but no unbalance if that makes sense, feeling like u are being pushe from behind, pendulum swinging inside feeling like I am on a boat. Eventually this also eased up almost 90% and only really came back if I was a little hungover this would subside the following day though. Still extremely anxious I started to develop a buzzing type sensation in my foot however I can’t distinguish the buzzing type pain from like a feeling of blood pushing through veins however this was definetly there for a few weeks. Also on my left foot under my toes a small patch always felt cold. After numerous trips to the doc I finally got them to send me to a neurologist. Who had suspicion of did all the clinical examinations etc he could sense my fear and to put my kind at rest ordered me an MRI brain. This came back completely normal and I suppose I took some comfort in the fact that it had almost been a year since everything started an I felt if tere was anything there it would show up on the MRI. After this I forgot all about everything and minus the odd dizzy spell when hungover I felt completely normal. Flash forward to Start of nov almost two years exactly to the date I catch the vomiting an diarrhoea bug at work ( I work in a hospital) and boom back comes the labrynthitis not as bad but a definite resurface. Of course I got really worried again after putting all my fears behinds I always had a niggling worry and you know when u just know somethin or can sense you have something. About a week later I started to get a funny sensation in my right leg. Like a muscle burning pain but not bad and all my clothes felt sensitive on it. My leg also felt hot ad clothes felt heavy on it I also experienced mild tingling in my foot but would be intermittent and obi moved my foot it would go away Lin of. However I must add I went to the gym about a week or so before it and had back pain for about two days later. I also walk a lot a noticed I got pain in my right bum cheek and also shun splint type pain which I attributed to walking a lot. So the pain has developed progressively over the last week now and feels like there is a vein blocked deep behin my knee.im still getting the tingling prickling mildly and the feeling of hotness. I’m so worried now and I know that anxiety always makes things worse. I would love to just put my leg thing down to over exertion/block nerve or blood circulation thing as I have poor circulation and have very bad thread veins on both legs and suffer from ankle swelling. Sorry for the long winded story I just wanted to get everything I could out so I candle sense of it or see if any of symptoms in ur opinion are ms related? I also suffer from stif out of focus eyes which I attributed to the labrynthitis I have had 2 eye tests which have been completely normal. Maybe I am over reacting and anxious but this is definetly a reality and I feel I can’t talk to anyone as on the outset I look fine. Thank you so much. Kind regards, Karen .

Sorry my predictive text on my iPad is terrible! I meant to say neurologist said he had no suspicion of any underlying ms. Sorry about spellin errors also.

Hi Karen, and welcome to the site

From what you’ve said, I think it’s very likely that your current problems are due to sciatica or something similar - the gym visit could have set something off, however given the previous episodes of strange symptoms, it seems sensible to get it checked out properly. Have you seen your GP about it? A physio might be a good person to see too - they should be able to identify if there is something structural causing the problem or not.

If it isn’t a trapped nerve or something like that, then there are still a large number of possible causes, only one of which is MS.

The thing about MS is that it can cause pretty much any neurological problem which of course means that all symptoms are possible MS symptoms. That doesn’t mean that they are of course - there are literally hundreds of things that mimic MS, many of which are treatable.

So first stop: see your GP and get your leg checked out properly. Maybe mention your eyes too - your GP can refer you an ophthalmologist if he/she thinks it would be helpful. Then take it from there.

Do try not to worry.
