Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum and want say “hello” and ask some advice.
Ive just received a letter from the DVLA saying they won’t renew my driving licence due
to my eyesight problems.
I have had double vision around four times and total eye loss once, all of which thankfully
only lasted minutes.
When i filled the medical form in i did explain this and that i wasn’t driving at the time.
I havn’t had any eye problems for some weeks now and may never get it again.
I just don’t know what to do, i can’t see anything about appealing.
Can anyone suggest anything.
Thank you in advance.
Hi Miss Tee
I am sure that you can appeal this decision. I would check the DVLA website. Did they not say in the letter that you could appeal and how.
I live in Scotland, so not sure of the procedure elsewhere but you can appeal to your local court which would be a Sheriff Court in Scotland or Magistrates Court in England/ Wales. I am sure it would be through the civil procedure and shouldnt cost an arm and a leg to do it as i am sure you can do this yourself. With not giving to much away i work within a Sheriff Court and i just checked with my colleague that it would be the way of a Summary Application. There will also be a time limit as to how long you have to appeal the decision. Not sure with regards to the procedure in England but cant be much different.
I am also still awaiting on my licence decision.
Hope this assists
Mark
Hi Mark.
Thank you for you reply and good advice, i will definitely appeal, i have now calmed down and feel a bit better.
I have appointment with my doctor on friday so hopefully he will write a few words that will go in my favour on
the appeal road.
Thanks again and good luck to you regarding your licence.
This has been my biggest fear all along, obviously we don,t drive when not fit to do so…I will go crazy if they take away what little independence I have by driving.

I’ve just been throught the process of notifying DVLA about my diagnosis and have got my new 3 year licence. There is an appeals process, they letter they sent me said I could appeal but it didn’t detail how to go about it.
Good luck.
Hi Mitzi,
Thank you for replying, my MS nurse is writing a letter to DVLA, they say they will look at my case again when
this has been received, so fingers crossed
Thanks again
Miss Tee
I had mine revoked last month I found a tel no on their website under the medical section you can e- mail to. They explained the reason and told me that medical evidence would be sort from consultant &G.p if you have there support you don’t need to go through magistrates to appeal, fill in a new medical questionairre, D1 form from Post Office, and put in a covering letter explaining why you want the decision overturned.
I sent mine 2 weeks since, I believe it can take a couple of months.
Good luck
Pauline
Good luck with appealing. Since my second relapse I have had permanent double vision, which I declared to the DVLA telling them that I have a frosted lens, and they have allowed me to continue driving, so hopefully with more medical evidence you will be ok too.
