Hi. I’ve pretty much known I’ve had MS for about 8 years but it’s only recently been formally diagnosed by MRI and lumbar puncture.
I’m a mostly fit and active 53-year old for whom MS is currently more of an irritation than a disability. I’m lucky.
I’m at the point of having to decide on possible treatments and think that Kesimpta sounds like a decent fit for me.
There’s information online about subjects who participated in trials for a couple of years and a few messages on here from people who didn’t get on with it fairly early on in their treatment.
Has anybody on here been on Kesimpta for a while and is willing to share their experience of it in the longer-term?
Many thanks
Rich
My MS sounds a bit like yours. 4 years diagnosed with RRMS and on Kesimpta for 2 years in December. Apart from the first dose, no side effects and most importantly no relapses or new lesions. Touch wood, it seems to be working for me
I’ve only just completed my 3 loading doses, now I’ll miss this week and inject next week then it’s once a month. I like the fact you can do the injection yourself, so far I’ve got on okay. The fed back I’ve received regarding this medication is very positive. I found injecting just before bed worked well, take a couple of paracetamol as well, then you can sleep it off.
@Oscar@animali thanks for the replies.
Have you had any/many infections or viruses and were they any worse than pre-Kesimpta?
I spend 3-4 hours per day on public transport in London and visit elderly parents and in-laws regularly in care homes. I’ll be lucky enough to retire early in just over a year and I’m considering taking my chances with MS relapses and deferring treatment until then to avoid potentially spending the next 12 months battling various bugs.
I’ve not had any infections of yet, but it’s still early days. You have to weigh up the pros and cons before deciding not to take treatment! For me personally I was diagnosed with highly active RRMS, so I’ve already had 4 relapses since December and because of the brain stem lesion my 2 nd neurologist recommended a high efficiency treatment to hopefully slow down disability.
I feel really well and have had no more coughs or colds since starting Kesimpta. My husband caught covid in August but I managed to avoid it. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Hello Rich,
I was on Kesimpta for only 9 months, it did wonders for my constant back and hip pain, but I had to come off it due to various recurring respiratory infections; please don’t be put off taking it, I was just one of the unlucky few that don’t really respond well to DMTs.
Good luck,
JP
