Hadn’t heard of it before seeing on Corrie St.

From one of the episodes I was wondering what the “stronger” medication he is going on.

MS2017

I dont watch Corrie, so looked up charleas bonnet…it’s visual hallucinations.

Now then, a couple of nights ago, I was flicking around you tube and came across ‘rare MS symptoms’…boy did that make interesting learning!

The list included visual and sound hallucinations and psychosis and crazy itching and unexplainable laughter and crying.

Dunno anything about stronger meds though.

I’d heard of Charles Bonnet syndrome because my elderly neighbour who’s lost his sight due to AMD has it, but i didn’t know it could also come with MS. What has surprised me about the Johnny storyline is the speed of access to MS nurse and neurologist. I’ve not seen an MS nurse ever in the 15 years since my diagnosis.

My mum was almost diagnosed with suffering from Charles Bonnet, which we were told was probably due to her Macular degeneration. Unfortunately she also had dementia which added another level to her complex care needs. During my days of trying to care for her I would witness her constantly scratching the floor/ carpet trying to pick up “tiny spiders” which were crawling around or trying to randomly pull “threads” from the air, like strands of cotton. Mum used to look like she was conducting an orchestra at times.

She would see tiny people coming through the floorboards, small children running around the room, sometimes sat on my lap on the sofa. (That was awkward!) Women randomly walking through the house and families “living down in the garden”. Mums dementia also caused her to be very untrusting and she would tell family members and carers that I was having countless affairs with these random people who she could see in the house. She started trying to threaten to set light to the house and all sorts to try and get rid of the strange visions she used to see.

I think Johnny in Coronation Street is playing the part very well, although it may come across a little over the top. I can relate a lot to how he is acting. I really hope that the hallucinations are not part of MS as I really don’t want to go through anything like it.

Hi number08…the hallucinations do sound very scary, but are not common in MS, so fingers crossed for us all!

I’m so sorry to hear how dementia changed your dear mum so much. It must’ve been so sad to watch.

Hi Bouds

Yes lets hope not.

Mum passed away just before Xmas and after 4 years of seeing her deteriorate and suffer, she is at peace now.
