my bank card was used fraudulantly, today the fraud team at the bank rang me and told me that a holiday for £2000 had been paid for along with some other stuff,so that means i have no money at all left,i got the call while my partner was at the hospital, visiting his really ill mother,i have been very ill myself these last few days, and i am so, so stressed with all this, i have been on the phone from 6-30 to 9 trying to sort it out,i accidently cut my self off when speaking to the fraud team and when i tried ringing back i was put on hold each time i rang, once for 40minutes at one time, needless to say i am worn out now,i had to do all this from my bed !!!
as i can barly stand,i am so scared now to use my card online, and have always been careful and use paypal when paying for most things, so i dont know how its happened,i dont use it outside very much at all either,so i am really confused to how its happened.
it was so hard trying to sort it out i was getting really confused and upset,so i am feeling sorry for myself, the bank says i will be coverd,so hope to god i will be,thing is i have to phone them back tomorrow as the transactions pending, and the fraud team cant do anything, until the transcations completed !!!
Oh Mrs J that’s awful, there are some really horrible people, to do that. It happened to my son a few years ago, so I wanted to reassure you that the bank reimbursed him, after a short while.
Whilst I hope that has been of help to know, I appreciate it does nothing for the stress you ave been caused, but please try not to, last thing you need.
The other thing that springs to mind is, have you got safety on your computer(can’t think of the proper name) so it can’t be hacked into?
Hope tomorrow it all gets sorted for you, and whoever done it is found out. (((((Hugs)))))
Surely if it’s a holiday that he’s been paid for fraudulently then the people responsible will be traceable, on the airplane when about to travel if nowhere else.
Agree with Pam you should be reimbursed by the bank, although the stress and worry nobody can take away from you.
Mrs J how absolutely awful. So HARD to deal with stuff like that with MS in the mix. It all gets so confusing. I find myself in tears over things that are so petty compared to card fraud which is terrible.
My sister had same problem very recently & bank sorted it out and put money back in her account very quickly.
thanks guys, the stress of it all is made 100 times worse with having to hang on the b****y phone for hours, tried to cancel my ebay account they said it will take 6 months to close…is it no wonder they get away with it,when it takes 6 months to close an account down, paypal said they have put an hold on my account so no one can use it,i have to phone them back in 4 weeks to confirm i want it closing, the worlds gone mad…i think it stems from ebay when all ebayers were told to change there password,4months after they realised there were problems with fraud… i changed my password as soon as they told me,but i think they had already got my details…
jan thats just what i said, but the fraud team cant act yet as the moneys left my account but is pending,so why the hell cant they stop it then,!!! omg common sense in situations like this would be a help.
i was only saying the other week how easy my life was made by technology, these days, trouble is now, i will not dare use my card online for anything,so its taken away the last bit of indpendance i had,i will have to rely on my partner much more now !!!
thanks for your support and hugs it means so much.
How awful for you! It has happened to my husband twice and he is very careful. The money was reimbursed, not that it helps with the stress. I can’t recall the details now of what exactly happened to my husband but I do recall the bank telling him how clever these people are and that it was not his fault!
I do hope it will soon be sorted and you will feel better again. There are some internet sites that are very secure, to be honest I don’t know how to tell the difference but I expect Pat does…she is much more computer savvy than me!
thinking of you, take care of yourself, sending a very big hug,
Ludicrous that the fraud team can’t do anything yet, I wonder if the police were involved that something more could be done. After all if someone stole the card itself then we would involve the police yet when something like this happens we leave it to the…whoever it is that deals with card frauds…to sort it out. Do the people who use card details fraudulently ever get prosecuted!! Makes my bloody boil.
Sorry Mrs J non of that helps you. Hope it gets resolved soon.
I have my cards insured with a company called Sentinel. Any fraud and I just have to call them and they make all the calls necessary. Other benefits also. Loss or theft of wallet and you just call their number… they call all the card providers and arrange for cancellation and new cards. It’s only £20 a year.
Of course this wouldn’t help when using eBay as it’s all Paypal which is meant to be so safe. I have never had a problem… but that’s no guarantee that it will never happen.
It would be a terrible shame if it put you off buying on the internet. I would bite the bullet and continue to buy off the internet… maybe have Paypal linked to a different bank account with limited funds in?
Anyway… don’t worry about any of that for now. Get this sorted first.
What a nightmare! Someone tried to use my credit card details fraudulently a few years ago and it was picked up by the card provider - they rang me to query the transaction as it didn’t fit my usual spending pattern and they were able to stop the transaction from completing. I can’t understand why your card provider can’t do the same - surely it’s preferable to stop the transaction than to have to reimburse afterwards?!
It’s a right hassle, too, being without the card while they issue a new one. Once this is all sorted out, consider getting a credit card to use just for online/phone shopping - and keep the limit low on that card. Then if fraudsters do get the details of that card, they can’t go on a big spending spree.
I hope the bank get their act together and get this sorted quickly for you. (((Hugs)))
Mrs J that’s stress you just don’t need. I’m having similar problems but I only use a credit card online with limited funds and both that and my PayPal account are linked to another bank to the one I use to pay my bills and my income goes into so fortunately I’ve only got a bill of £240 which is too much for me to find as well but my bank seem to be sorting it out. As you say though, the phone calls are upsetting and really frustrating, and I was left wondering if they thought I’d done it, as if!!! If they look at my purchase history though they’ll realise that I don’t spend that kind of money as I hate debt.
I hope things are being sorted out for you. I will continue to shop online though, these scumbags are not going to ruin my life, and I hope you can do the same. Please let us know how you get on.
Thanks Nina, I’ve done all I can, my credit card company were very nice and helpful, have told me not to worry, so that’s what I’m trying to do. I don’t know how these scoundrels live with themselves though, it’s disgusting. Now I just have to sit tight.
I know, its beyond me how they sleep at night. I do think Pats idea of insuring your cards with sentinel is good.
I don’t know about you but sorting problems on the phone is SO exhausting for me, endless holding on and waiting for calls to be returned etc. To be able to phone just one company and let them sort everything out sounds as though it would have been so much easier and less stressful for you and Mrs J.
thanks for all your replies,i am going to use another bank account for buying online, one that will have no money in, i will just transfer the money needed at the time, from my current account, that way if the fraudsters get my details there wont be much money they can get,i wish i had done this before, i could have saved myself a lot of hassle, its made me really ill all this stress, i cant cope with it either, but have to as its my card,so they have to deal with me,even though its our joint account…its other things too, i am expecting a refund for £100 from amazon and it has to go back on to the card thats been cancelled,so thats more sorting out,it feels never ending
i cant believe that it will take 6 months for ebay to close my ebay account, and paypal wont close my account for a month, they have put a block on,didnt know just how bad there customer support is,ebay is really bad, i was wanting to talk to online support .they had me holding for 40 minutes and then cut me off cos i didnt talk back quick enough…i rang them, and couldnt understand a word, she was saying…paypal and ebay are run by same company,so i am not using them again,as they have made this awful situation worse…
The worst of it is, is that these companies are multi million pound companies… registered in Luxemburg or wherever so they don’t have to pay UK tax… AND they can’t even provide a decent level of customer support!!!
And for those of us who can’t get out of the house much we rely on them so heavily!
