Hi!
Recently my MS is driving me mad with sensory symptoms including the dreaded itch! I know anti-histamines are useless for this time of itching, although I do take one daily for other allergies.
My query is my head is driving me mad and I’m actually breaking the skin now that I have my natural nails, (gel nails are pretty but they are also useful to stop causing much damage when I have these attacks), anyhow I was wondering if an anti itch shampoo be worth giving a go or would it be as useless as anti-histamines?
Also has anyone have any tips on how to wash their hair/shower without triggering occipital neuralgia? With lockdown I’m able to get away with not having to wash my hair as often as before but I do wonder if that in itself could be causing the irritation.
in regards to occipital neuralgia or TN has anyone tried Botox in order to try and ease the pain?
Thanks for reading!

I am going through same since january.I have constant itching,my scalp is really bad.Its driving me nuts.I have just started using aveeno shampoo for itchy/dry scalp and i do think its helping as i dont seem to be itching as much.
I’ve had this for a few years, I’ve tried everything including something on prescription a dermatologist prescribed, sorry can’t remember the name but it doesn’t matter because it didn’t work. I’ve tried all kinds of shampoos and conditioners I’ve also tried not using conditioner, non of it works. A friend swears by Tea tree products but her itch isn’t MS related.
I do not itch it just makes the itch worse, I place my hands on my head and press down, not perfect but nothing is. If it’s any consolation I find my itch comes and goes sometimes I get a couple of weeks itch free.
Stay safe

Thanks for the replies! I might try that shampoo as I’m getting pretty desperate, with my itching I now have cuts on my scalp, both ears and back, it’s driving me nuts hence the reply at 3.58am! I might have to purchase some of those cotton mittens that babies wear to prevent them from scratching themselves!

I have no idea why it works but i use pure olive oil on my hair, i just dab it with cotton wool balls not soak it and it stops the itch, so whether its my MS or dry scalp no idea. Or by using the oil it is some sort of relief physchological. if that makes a sense.
Hi, I too get this, more so this year than any other, why, who knows, but my nerve pain in general has been worse, I try my best not to itch it, my nurse told me it was nerve pain, I too take antihistamins for hay fever and it doesn’t help for the itch, so just soemthing else to cope with, x x
