Hi,
Does anyone know if its possible to get pain in the thoracic area of the spine due to spinal lesions. I experience terrible burning pain in that area when laying flat. I know that cervical lesions can cause an electric shock sensations and wondered if pain could be caused by the actual lesion.
Thanks Christine
No idea on lesions causing pain, but I get lower back pain when I lay flat. Try sticking a pillow under your knees when you have pain. It really helps me!
Hi, could it be heartburn/indigestion? Lying down can cause acid reflux. I take lansopraole for it.

I have lesions all over the place, and they all cause serious bloody pain from my ribs to the tip of my toes. I cant sleep at all on my back, so I invested in a full length body pillow which I turn into when I am ready to grab some zzz’s. I find that by supporting my knee, and keeping my foot off the mattress, with a pillow in the small of my back, the pain is much less and I am able to sleep pretty well. I also find it very important to keep my entire body covered, and in an even temperature; cold and exposure to different temperatures really sets me off!
I know that this sounds a bit bizzare, but it seems to work for me with out necessarily upping my meds.

Hi I have a lesion in the thoracic spine and can sometimes feel a strange uncomfortable sensation in a particular spot on my spine, but it isn’t particularly sore. However get pulling & burning sensations from the ribs down, numb heavy legs and numbness in my hands, especially the left one. My left leg also gets super cold and I’ve become constipated. Can also only sleep in one position and that is on my stomach with my right leg in an upright position. Wish I could sleep in other positions. When going to sleep I normally have to lie still for quite some time and as such let things settle down in order to get comfy. The pain can be intense, but eventually settles if I lie still. As far as I’m aware the bulk of my symptoms are because of this lesion. I take 30 or 40mg of amytriptaline and it seems to help. Also, take ibuprofen if I’m really struggling to sleep or need a good night. Perhaps have a word with your MS nurse and try and work out what works for you. Take care x
