Hi everyone, Looking for some advice please. After numerous tests to rule out anything worse, I am now told I have ibs. After just returning from holiday, which was very stressful to come home to more stress and then a pending shoulder op, I am really suffering from loose bowels. I have not been sick but not getting any better. My previous ms symptoms are now playing up too. Does anyone else have ibs and is it connected to ms, as mine started at the same time Many thanks Helen
I read a book about various neurological diseases (including MS) that suggested a very strong link between IBS and MS. It even went as far as to say that people with IBS have lesions similar to MS patients. I can’t remember the name though - I could try to find out if you are interested as I borrowed it. Lots of books recommend special MS diets due to links between diet and MS so there does seem to be something there as most are evidence based.

Hi I have IBS and MS. My IBS symptoms really flared up recently and was sent for an endoscopy and colonoscopy by the gastroenterolagist after my ms consultant referred me to them as wanted to check nothing else was wrong with me. When I got my results back the gastroenterolagist explained there was nothing alarming with my results but did say what I was experiencing is comman with some people who have MS and did notify my MS consultant that these symptoms were linked to my MS. I was given some medicine to take before I eat to help me stomach deal with the food in take. This has helped me a lot and I don’t really have many issues now with my stomach. Polly x
Thanks everyone Polly, what is the meds, just wondering if its worth asking my gp My gp puts everything down to me eing stressed. Thanks
Hi Helen I take Loperamide, he told me to take one every morning and one 30 minutes before meals. It really has helped me as I would get really worried after eating especially when I was out .The consultant said what I was experiencing was something he had seen before with people with MS. I hope it helps, anything is worth a try as I found the more stressed about it I got the worse it became. Polly x
