Hug now other symptoms and post LP headache worsened :-(

So still not gone into work. Was hoping I’d feel better this morning but headache now starts the moment I stand where as yesterday I could manage 5 mins of pottering before I really had to lie down. Took me long time to make my coffee this morning as just something as simple as filling the kettle was excrutiating and I’d have to quickly go lie down again. I had to lie down and brush my teeth too! Taken some painkillers but even then I’m struggling beyond a few mins. Certianly can’t sit. To top it off I now have the hug on my L.

Just wondered what other peoples post LP experiences were. I’ve noticed tingling in my back/bum on L when I pee at the moment and some hesitancy at times getting started. My pins and needles in my L leg have also worsened a little. The headache of course is expected and though it seems I’ve been hit by it quiet bad at least I knew to expect it might happen. The other stuff I’m not so sure of - am I just getting a temporary worsening of some of my old symptoms or is this effect of Lp?

Feel terrible being off work again and so unproductive - worst thing is at this rate I’m noy sure if i’ll get back to work till next week. Oh well must try and keep positive - if it gets me answers I need to get diagnosed then it’ll be something.

So sorry you are not feeling well, I had my LP last Wednesday and I nearly chickened out while lying on the bed after reading what could happen afterwards like the headache from hell but my Nero came in and had a chat with me so went ahead and to be honest I never felt a thing , I lied down about 20mins at the hospital and then drove home, I laid on the setee and drunk 1 litre of coke and whether I am lucky but never affected me at all had no headache just a sore back once the anathetic wore of. Hope u soon feel much better and take care Amanda

Hi Reemz,

Not much consolation, I know, but I was almost exactly like you following my LP. The headache, if you can call it that, was horrific, and went on for about 7 days, but it seemed to set off a whole load of other symptoms too, which lasted 3-4 weeks! I ended up going into hospital, having a patch, steroids, all sorts!

I think I was unlucky, certainly unusual as mostly LP’s are pretty straightforward these days, and I think you are in the minority if you suffer any kind of problems as a result of having one these days. I was told after that I was probably just starting a relapse so it was coincidental, and complicated by migraine, but whatever, it wasn’t much fun!

I do hope you get some relief soon. If the headache doesn’t ease, or indeed gets worse, please contact your GP, or neuro’s sec, to see if you need a patch.

Take care xx

Hi Reemz, After my LP, I did get a headache start if I didn’t lie down for long enough, so I took paracetamol, sipped coke regularly and eat little and often. Make sure you haven’t any leakage (check your bed linen). It does wear off (I promise!) by listening to your body. If you feel better lying down then do it. Keep your fluid intake up, caffeine drinks definitely helped me. Good luck. Sam x

What rotten luck. I had no headache at all (as instructed, I had stayed flat on my back for a couple of hours after the LP). The neurologist who did it was nearing retirement and had probably done literally hundreds of them before - I’m sure it helps. Or maybe it is just the luck of the draw. In any case, I am sorry that the LP gods were not smiling and I really hope that you feel better soon.

Hi Hunny Thanks for sharing your story. Reassuring knowing though uncommon some people do experience worse symptoms. I can relate to horrific it’s like my heads about to explode. Sounds like you had a rough time after yours. Did yours help get your diagnosis? I think I’ll give the neuro sec a call tomoz if things are no better. Hopefully the other stuff subsides but if not I’ll mention those too. Thanks again Reemz X [quote=“hunny”]

Thank u guys. I must just be unlucky. Not moved off sofa apart from for drinks. Hope it gets better soon.

Hi Reemz, sorry I didn’t get back sooner, had a crappy few days myself.

How are you doing now? Any improvement?

My diagnosis was long, and complicated by other health issues, but yes, I guess it did contribute eventually!

I do hope you start to feel better soon, but don’t let it go on too long before you speak to a GP or someone for some advice xx

Thanks Hunny. I saw the Gp today who has written me off work for a week. She said if I was worse or not improved by Tuesday she’d advise ? Admission n seeing neuro. The paracetamol seems to be making a small dent in the pain so slightly better than yesterday but still a long way to go. Yes I remember reading ur story at the time and remember that things weren’t so straight fwd for u. My managers been gd so no pressure to hurry back though lying on my back in 1 position isn’t g8 with the hug. Just can’t wait to feel better and do things- I’m not use to staying put even with my episodes if things that have happened I’ve tried to work or be productive in some way. Thank u for asking how I am. Hope ur feeling better too and that it wasn’t anything major. Reemz X

Are you only taking paracetamol? Can you not have anything stronger? Its awful being a “patient” isn’t it. Really hope you feel better soon and gentle hug being sent A

Wishing you well, Reemz. I’m so glad you’ve got some time off work to look after yourself. Let us know how you are in a few days x

Thank you so much for your lovely messages. You guys have really kept me going the last few days.

I’m still on the paracetamol plus caffeine - GP advised against anything stronger particularly as ibruprofen upsets my tummy. Been eating so much the past few days as theres only so much staring at the ceiling you can do. Seems to be making hug wosr as pain is all the way in my armpit and arm feels a bit funny.

Tried to entertain myself by doing our wedding gift registry today but slow going lying horizontal. I can stand up and do a few things now like a cup of tea and brushing teeth but sitting is still a big no go.

The choc-chip brioche is trying to call me at the mo but I’m trying to resist - been such a couch potato I’m sure I’ll have put on a stone.

Hope you guys are well - at least I have my humour back and I feel I am over the worst of the headache but far from norm. For once I’m not going to guilt myself into rushing back to work and struggling.

Lets hope the Lp and the rest of the tests give some answers if not - I dread to even think of square one again.

Lots of love and hugs back to you amazing people.
