Hi my partner was recently admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke but after an mri head scan he has been told he has possible ms before this we booked a holiday in July to Tunisia. He has been discharged from hospital with no proper diagnosis or medication and had not seen a neurologist. He has been told he has been referred and this may take several weeks before he gets an appointment and a proper diagnosis. I am not sure now if we should go on holiday? Has anyone else been in this situation? Should we just go on holiday? not sure what to do. Any input would be appreciated.
I was diagnosed quickly in April 2012 and had a holiday booked in the June. I was worrying and thought about cancelling, but then thought I needed cheering up so decided to go and enjoy myself. You can’t put your life on hold as there’s too many “what ifs” even if it does turn out to be MS. If you already had holiday insurance for this break, it SHOULD cover him as the policy was bought before anything happened (ours did - provided by the travel company). I would check though. If you’ve still to buy insurance you may have an issue. Enjoy your hols! I went to Tunisia in July 2007 and loved it!
thank you choccyholic you are right we should not put our life on hold unfortunately we did not take out ins with the travel agent cause was just goinge to get our own online only prob now is if i take a policy out now what do we tell them. we where so looking forward to our holiday and so need it now
Thank you carole i will do that did not think about how the heat would affect him just thought it would do him good to get away and chill will defo make sure he drinks plenty.
I got insurance with Direct Travel Insurance when I had suspected MS and was still under investigation and I was able to do the medical declaration online. I think it asked questions about my mobility and whether I was fully independent or needed a carer, then it decided how much extra it would cost to cover my medical conditions. The policy price was reasonable, even including the medical cover.
I have since bought other policies from them (I always buy single trip because I travel with different people, but like to have one policy covering me and whoever I’m taking the trip with).
The holiday will probably do you both good - time away from “real life”, time to have fun together and to talk. Time to relax together. I’d go for it.
Thank you we had booked a family holiday for 7 of us our two kids and my partners son his girlfriend and wee boy but because he became ill he can no longer do his job offshore so no income coming in as he was not on a permenant contract with his employer so we could not afford the big family holiday so thats why we are now going to just go away the two of us. It will let us have some time alone to reflect on his new life with ms. x
