Heavy legs often

I have heavy legs almost all the time. Sometimes it’s so bad I don’t even want to walk. It’s not weakness just heavy. Is this an ms symptom? If so do you experience this?

I also have this one pain in my back that wraps around my ribs to the middle or left front ribs. Ribs under armpits hurt. It feels like small knife stabbing feeling and when I touch my ribs they feel bruised. Is that the ms hug? It will usually last for two weeks off and on but most of the day. I use heat pad and salonpas. It doesn’t help I just have to wait for the pain to subside then in two weeks it’s gone like it never even happened?

Sound familiar?

Heavy legs are a sign of deconditioning. You need to do plenty of exercise & stretching - or more than you’re doing currently.

I find an exercise bike is good, not for a CV workout but because it forces the legs to prescribe that full circular motion and fairly obviously, the same both sides. Foot straps are essential or my feet can’t stay on the pedals.

Would that work for you?

My legs often feel like they’re dragging and feel as though I’ve lots of weights on them. Stairs are like climbing a massive hill. I still go walking but I have to rest or sit. I’m not diagnosed but heavy legs and arms and stiffness is a ongoing reacuring issue

This is one of my main symptoms when I have a relapse. Just moving seems to be a chore. I try push through it though I feel as though I can cry. I also continue running through it even if I feel ridiculous for the first five minutes until my muscle memory kicks in. It still feels horrible but I won’t let it get better of me. My first neuro I had told me to use it or lose it and I am not willing to lose it. So it takes a lot of effort but for me I keep moving.

I try to push through too more so when I’m out walking with my husband but I feel awful. Hills or any incline are a nightmare.

I suffer from MS and heavy legs is something that I always suffer from going up the stairs. It was one of my first symptoms and I have never had this issue before I had MS and was active as well so don’t think it is just an expercise issue for me.

it can be a real chore going upstairs, however some days are better than others but it is always there in varying degrees and I only seem to get it in my thighs. it kind of feels like I have lead weights attached. Walking on a flat surface doesn’t bother me and neither does cycling - to some extent - it’s just stairs…
