Heating bills

Hi Everyone

Are you all aware that if you are in receipt of ESA, DLA or Tax Credits you can claim a warm home discount from your energy supplier? I’ve just found out and applied. Most of you probably already know but I just thought I’d mention it in case there are one or two of you like me who didn’t.

You just go onto your suppliers website and look for the warm front discount. British Gas pay £135. Take care.

Thanks Cath, I’ve got my PIP assessment coming up, hopefully after that I will be able to apply!

Sonia x

I won’t qualify as despte having DLA and tax creditts, I don’t have ESA, Income Support or JSA.

Hi Mr G

I was under the impression that dla was a qualifier, so maybe worth you checking.

Sorry if I have built your hopes up, if I am wrong, but I really think you should phone to check…

Pqm x

Hi Mr G I don’t have ESA …just DLA and I qualify. Feeling any better yet? Nina x

I’m really sorry if I got your hopes up and you don’t qualify. I just heard about it, applied and thought some of you might qualify but not know about it as the suppliers haven’t let on despite hiking out bills up.

Cath

I actually missed out on a couple of years…but better late than never. They don’t make it easy. Did ask if I could have it retrospectively …guess what…they laughed and said a big fat no! No need to apologise Cath …you were trying to help …thank you. Nina x

Thanks for that Nina. Feeling really low at moment so sat in tears thinking I’ve upset people when trying to help. I’ve been eligible for 3 years now but never knew about it. Take care

Cath xx

Ahh Cath…silly old billy! I’m sure even people that aren’t eligible knew that you were being thoughtful. Don’t be low…you have so much to contend with…I think you’re remarkable you always sound chirpy and I for one always enjoy your posts. Me too…been eligible since it started in 2011 but only found out earlier this year…at least you thought to tell everyone…I didn’t . I’m such a dope! You mustn’t get upset about stuff on here…this is our refuge remember. Take good care of yourself, Love Nina x

Oh Cath,

Please dont get upset, it is a good job you thought about posting it, I didnt give it a thought to post…thats my ms brain fog!

Take care, be kind to yourself.

The GP said it would take 2 weeks before the tablets started to work but thanks for asking as I’d forgotten to take one tonight.

I’m in the process of changing supplier (EDF) so I’ll check when it’s all gone through. My fault as I’ve just re-read the conditions and it seems I do qualify.

Thanks Cath. Don’t feel bad just sympathise with the stupid, like me.

Thanks folks, I’m sure you all experience those down days when you cry cos someone looked at you funny… I know it’s daft but I take everything negatively when I’m down. I’ll make sure I take my happy pills as I call them.

Thanks again, will cheer up I’m sure.

Understand 200 % Nina x

Still don’t think I qualify. From the EDF site, I don’t fit into group one:

Warm Home Discount - Support Plus rebates - find out more

In 2013/14 Warm Home Discount - Support Plus gives qualifying vulnerable customers a one-off electricity rebate of £135 this winter**. To qualify for this, you, or your partner living with you, must meet at least one criteria from each of these two groups:

Group 1

  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance

Group 2

  • Long Term Incapacity Benefit (including credits only)
  • Severe Disability Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for yourself
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for another adult living with you
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for a child living with you
  • Have a child who was under 5 on the 1st April 2013 living with you (born on or after 1 April 2008)
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance which includes a work related activity or a support group component

I do think I can apply… Thanks for that Cath. Though it’s very cheap here. Heating is paid monthly on fixed charge so we can have heating on 24/7 if we want. Cath darling do not worry about giving wrong info… Although actually this was very good info… I’ve done it countless times on here. Just this week I forgot to tell Ruth about having vitamin D leveLs checked. You are with family on here… Never forget that… And hope you are feeling better now. Pat x

Sorry Mr G. I know from posts on the forum that many of us have to rely on benefits as this cruel illness has prevented us from working. When I was well I was able to work overtime and do other little jobs in my spare time to pay my extortionate heating bills. My circumstances have changed and now I must really scrimp on my heating but finding out there’s help available to people in my position is a relief but nobody tells us about it. I’m upset as I’ve struggled for at least 2 years while I’ve been eligible but ignorant, but have now applied and wanted to make sure others like me are aware of the help available. I’m really sorry if you don’t qualify now but at least you now know if you do find yourself retired that you’ll get it too.

Pat and Nina I’d like to thank you both for your support, as I said before I never meant to upset anyone, I am just feeling really down at the moment and can’t shake it off. I’ll come round soon I’m sure, the cold doesn’t agree with me, I’ve got cord damage which results in severe nerve pain and my legs especially feel like they’ve been scalded. I’ve got morphine top ups to use but I don’t like the side effects and I think that’s got something to do with it. I’ll be fine soon.

Take care. Cath xx

Worry ye not Cath.

It exercised my grey matter and is useful to know for everyone concerned.

Look after yersel’ hinny and here’s to better days.

Take care.

Thinking of you Cath and sending you loads of hugs. Get plenty of rest and hopefully you’ll be back on track in no time Nina x

Hi Cath

((((((Hugs))))) hope you feel better today.

Pam x

Thanks Everyone

It’s silly, I don’t know why I feel like this, but appreciate your concern and care. I’ll be fine soon I’m sure, if my mood doesn’t lift I’ll see gp about pushing anti depressants up. While I’m there I’ll get bloods tested as my vitamin levels have never been done, I’m taking supplements as you’ve all recommended but maybe that’s got something to do with how I feel.

Thanks again, enjoy your weekend.

Cath xx
