Having a filling at the dentist

Hi everyone. So this morning I had quite a big filling from my lovely dentist. I had injections and felt very relaxed. I had a cushion behind my head (as something went wrong with the headrest - he asked me if I was comfortable to go ahead and I was.) I also had a mouth prop (on the other side of my mouth from the filling) as it’s much easier to keep my mouth open with this. I almost dropped off. Weird I know…

The odd thing is that I feel completely wiped out now - very very tired.

Anyone else ever had this?

Thanks - Louise

No, Louise. That just is weird. Sorry.wink

Hi, I wish I could get relaxed at the dentist, I’m always ready to make a run for it and leave. Fight or flight ready with high anxiety.

Lucky you that you felt so relaxed.

I have the greatest dentist in the country. And I was a complete dentaphobe (if that’s a word; I was scared rigid by them). But there is no way in the world I would ever fall asleep at the dentist. I’m quite likely to flake out later in the day though, cos however nice Jamie (my dentist) is, he’s still a dentist and therefore there’s a small bit of stress involved. So I’m with you being wiped out later, but super relaxed in the chair? Never.

Sue

I can almost fal l asleep at the dentist but they make sure you are still awake, by telling you to keep your mouth open, also during MRIs

Well it is a kind of of trauma!

I told my dentist I’d rather have a baby than filling, he said, Well hurry up and make your mind up before I ajust the chair.

OK I know that’s an old joke, but it’s still a good one!

Yep, I’m weird! I also nod off in MRI’s!

Forgot to say that the headrest spring suddenly snapped as the dentist was about to administer the local anaesthetic. He said I could rebook or try the cushion behind my head - they keep one for patients with neck problems. I did and it was very comfortable. Probably developing whiplash now and that was why I felt so wiped out this afternoon!

I highly recommend the mouth prop though as it’s more comfortable and easier to keep your mouth open during treatment. My dentist has two, and I found the smaller one better.

I was always taken regularly for dental appointments when I was a child, and I did so with my kids when they were little. I think this made a difference as a dentist visit is no big deal for us, even with orthodontics. I occasionally meet people who say they’ve avoided the dentist for years as they’re too nervous.

Good joke that, Polls!
