Afternoon all!
This is a new type of problem. Has anyone else experienced it?
I use a ceiling hoist at home for transfers in/out of bed and in/out of my recliner.
On Friday, I noticed the tape which goes from the hoist to the ceiling hook, was a little frayed in one small area. I showed it to huuby who said he was worried about it`s strength integrity. I immediately rang the office…if I have any problems with the hoist, I have to ring the council, then they ring the firm who supplied the hoist.
I had a call back to say someone would come out today. Well between friday and today, the fraying has become bigger and more ragged. In fact it looks like a rat has gnawed at it! I have continued to use it, stopping the lift just where the fraying starts. This entails dragging me from the wheelie to the bed…no, not very dignified at all!
Well, hubby took a call about 2 hours ago from the firm asking if the job could be left until tomorrow. Well he said a frim No!`` He explained how bad the strap has got..then he added that he is suffering from a bad flare up with his hand, due to his RA and can
t manually transfer me. This is actually true!!!
Then hubby was told another phonecall would be coming from them, as they were an engineer down today. Chuffin
ell, eh!
Oh, hang on a mo`…engineer has just rang. He asked what the problem was!!! After hubby had described it, he said it was a common fault!!!
It`s something like this;
as the strap moves up and down, it is catching on something inside and causing a groove at each side of the strap…ie making it rip./fray/shred. Just what you want to know when you are dependent on the thing lifting you safely, eh?
Right, so when he`s been a fixed it (fingers crossed).
Ah, just had another call…they are going to replace the WHOLE unit. And it will be here between 4-5.30pm.
I`ll post again later.
