Hi everyone,
I have just returned from a two week trip to Athens, Xylokastro, Ioannina and Corfu in Greece.
I discovered that we have free entry to all public museums and heritage sites, and a carer can accompany us free of charge as well.
In every museum, I simply showed proof of my MS (I had my diagnosis letter from my local hospital in the UK, but you can also show your blue badge), and it was accepted without question. Both you and your carer can visit museums and heritage sites for free, as long as they are public, and the vast majority in Greece are.
If a cultural centre is privately run, the person with MS still enters for free, while the carer usually pays, sometimes at a discounted rate.
I also found that all but one of the cultural places I visited were accessible.
It is always worth asking about discounts in Greece, because you might be surprised. I even got a discounted ticket for a pirate ship tour along the coast of Corfu. Anything related to culture, sightseeing, or even music concerts often comes with free or reduced entry.
During this trip, I visited over 30 museums, heritage sites, and cultural events. I estimate that my partner and I saved almost 300 euros just by showing my MS diagnosis letter.
Just sharing this in case you are thinking of visiting Greece soon.
Maria
