Any Scientists out there? I am having an MRI with gadolinium on the 24th and travelling by air on the 2nd… will I beep when I go through the metal detector/Xray?
lol
Should I have a note from the GP to say I’ve had Gd?

Check when you go for your scan…its perfectly reasonable to ask these questions. My guess is, you will have pickled it out of your system long before you fly.
Have a lovely holiday
I haven’t re-researched it, and it’s more than three years since I had mine, but I think it flushes out really quickly - 24 to 48 hours max. You are advised to drink plenty afterwards, to help it flush through - you’ll pee it out, basically.
I doubt the quantities involved are so high you’d set off a metal detector looking for knives or guns, even if you went through straight afterwards, to be honest. Dental fillings don’t set it off, do they? I’m told even the surgical plates used to repair bones don’t set it off these days. My mum was most disappointed when she learnt this, as she has plates and screws in her foot. I doubt she’ll fly again anyway, unless I’m very much mistaken, but she had been looking forward to creating a bit of a disturbance at the airport.
She said: “What’s the point of having all this in my foot, if I can’t even set the machine off?” She had expected it to be an obscure perk.

LOL well I asked and the lady looked at me, lifted an eyebrow and said “Um… no, I shouldn’t think so”
ha ha!
One thing I noticed though, my face feels sunburnt and is flushed… is this due to being in the MRI for 30 minutes or the Gd?
Hey, we need a bit of excitement in our lives. If it were me I would get a letter, say nothing go through the detector and let the alarm go off ff. Oh, and at the same time make sure you go through using a wheelchair, that in istself causes undue attention. They probably will talk to who you are travelling with before looking at you. No serioulsy don’t take my advice. I went through with magnets on my back. I did tell the security staff and even then I felt such a criminal. Sad we have to think about such things but could see the funny side of this situation Lou x
My Mother is in a mobility scooter… a few weeks ago we popped into McFilths for a McFilth burger and coffee and because I had a fish burger it took longer to make so we went to sit down. When the woman came to give me my burger I was fussing with a tray and trying to wedge it on my Mothers mobility handle bars so she could eat and we were both laughing.
The McFilths woman actually smiled at her, looked at me and said “Does she want a smaller tray, is she ok with that?”
I looked at my Mum, she looked at me and I said “She’s not mentally disabled you know, you can speak to her and ask her!”
The woman appologised and then looked at my Mum and said
“Are… you… oh…kaaaay?.. Do you … need… any… help?”
wtf? My Mum looked up and said "Yes, I need someone to come and interpret your patronising language, I’ve not been spoken to like that since I was 2 "
LMFAO!!!
Why do people see a wheel chair and assume the person in it is stupid?
Yes, I know the feeling I too use a wheelchair when I am really bad and suddenly you become invisible. AlI eye conatct is lost, I want to scream and shout, hey I may be down here but I still have a voice. I have gone through security at an airport in a wheelchair and have felt the whole world looking at me. Of course to them, I am holding everyone up, not that they are really going anywhere faster than me, they still have to wait for their final departure call. I have bought a mobility scooter but because of prejudice sold it on, my biggest mistake yet. Yesterday, such stubborness resulted in me yet again almost falling in the floor. I guess my last post was as much a poke of fun at myself as well as the situation many of us find ourselves in. Lou x
MamaOwl, I like your mother’s style!
