HI Chirstine. I’ve had no mobility for over 20 years. I am hoisted for all transfers.
You need to ask an OT or Social Services about getting a hoist. I had a portable one first and then got ceiling ones…in lounge and bedroom.

Hi and thanks fir your reply
Ot have bèen out a few times and are back tomorrow.
I wont have a pa here with me at all times. I know there are some ceiling hoists that dont nèed a second person. I think thats the way i neèd to go.
Thanks again
The biggest thing in the OT world right now is MHP (moving & handling people). The costs of care provision are escalating and one of the biggest ways of reducing costs is moving from 2-person handling > 1-person and ideally self-handling. Eliminate an ongoing & indefinite cost and you save a fortune to the local authority. In your local authority’s Adult Social Care team, there may even be a budget set aside for MHP technology. There is certainly a lot of money being spent on training & educating OT’s and Carers on moving/ management strategies.
As Bouds says, talk to your local ASC / OT team about a new statutory assessment.
Hi
I was having a similar problem, with transfers from bed to wheelchair were getting really difficult. I got in touch with Remap, who are a charity t hat make bespoke solutions for people with disabilities. A fell came out to see me, I explained clearly what was causing the trouble, and he came up with something that has made the transfers so much easier and safer.
You can send an enquiry on their website, and hopefully there’ll be someone in your area who can help.
Dan
